We dont want to be promoters. We are DJ's. Yes we have our own parties but 99.9% of the time its only m.i.a. djs playing, and yes we promote our own club night, but now a days if you want to be a dj you have to promote. but to call us promoters... we would have to say we are not your average promoters, we only do drum n bass and book almost exclusively from our own roster.
We'll work with anyone so long as everything is fair to all parties including the ravers and club heads. and if we dont work with people then something has been compromised. ![]() |

![]() so promoter unity isnt going to really help - nor will it ever happen at least in the scale that you are talking about. Have you ever heard the expression, "too many chefs in the kitchen"? And the reason it wouldn't help monitarily is because really Idk if all the crews put their 'bank rolls' together we would have enough to do something on the scale you are talking to. I mean to draw 20k you need a space that can hold 20k legally... so you're talking alstate, mcormick, (i think the harvey only holds about 5k now... though it used to be 10 when they had the photon). Spaces like that cost a ridiculous amount of money. I mean realistically you would need at the very least, and I mean the very least, a half of a million dollars to throw soemthing of that scale... mabye if you got hooked up and you didn't go to entirely crazy with the lineup or production you could get away with 250k but then you're flirting with a turnout disaster... granted the whole point of spending that much is going for a sure thing. The only problem is in any business, there is no such thing as a sure thing. Now a lot of that money is also covering advertisement and marketing which for something this large, a LOT of money would have to be spent. Q101 / b96 / dance factory etc radio advertisements. Not to mention myspace / going banner ads and sponsorship. I mean for doing a party like this you cannot even treat it like a rave and you cannot treat it like an 'underground' what so ever. You have to essentially "sell out" to america to appeal to the masses. We'll be attempting something 1/10 the size of what we are talking about here in the fall and will still be a massive by today's standards in this part of the world. The best thing we could do from a party kid stand point to bring numbers to the scene is to ALWAYS bring new people with to parties. Always give people mix cds to listen to in their ride. Always be pushing the scene to your non-raver friends. ALWAYS. It is our duty as party kids to do so if we want to grow the scene and EDM awareness. The best thing we can all do from the promoter stand point is to have some sort of quality control. The biggest thing prevents newbies from EVER coming back to another party is having a bad taste in their mouth because the party wasnt what it was cracked up to be, nor worth $25... Decorate, theme the events, use good sound, start the party on time, use venues with good accustics... create an experience for the people. Make it something they will remember, each and every event you throw. Also, it might actually help if a little more house / hiphop was booked at everyone's parties because hey... this is chicago after all, lets stop kidding our selves. |

20,000 people.....well....atleast your thinking optimistically. I'm happy if I even see 300 people at a party these days. Although dance music in Chicago has a pretty good following, I don't even think that 20,000 people in this city or even the surrounding areas/states amounts to that number. From what I've gathered the majority of the people who are into dance music in Chicago are just casual listeners not obsessive fanatics. Something of this scale could only happen in Europe. Dance music is pushed there more than rock music (so it seems), and is publicized HEAVILY.

^^^ this goes back to what i was talking about - pushing edm is all of our duties... The more people into it, the more the big dogs will catch on and the more it will be 'publicized' - it might take 10 years for anything major to happen. But when it does, it will be worth the wait and we'll all be able to pat our selves on the back.

In Cali I think they have 60k massives so it is possible in the U.S. to get 20k people. If you really want to get a huge amount of people hit up any colleges in the area, price tickets at maybe 10 bucks or less, rent an area outdoors, get a well known DJ who does not cost insane amounts to get and then get some of the better DJs around Chicago to play.
The big problem is at the entry costs it would take to get out 20k people out your talking about an almost garenteed loss, some big trouble with police since I dout they would want a massive in their area and your taking a huge risk. Best thing would be to start with a smaller massive and build it up over the years. |

COme july 12th ARSENAL OF SOUND be prepared for 3,000+ party pollacks in action!!!!!!1
I know all of you hate that music and that scene and that type of people, but if you wanna see what a massive would be by chicago standards, check it out. I went to some shit they threw there a few years ago with aquagen, bennassi bros, scooter etc. and it was fun as hell, provided you can tolerate the music. the people weren't even that bad. but if you want edm massives, like it or not they'll have to start out like these clubber euro fests in order to just get the sheer number of people out there. my 2 cents at least. commercial, cheesey, asshole-ish people, yes its guilty of such things, but i guarantee you all it'll have more people in attendance than any 'underground' 'rave' here in the past 5 years at least. |

Awwww, Matt remember when we partied @ scooter? That was fun! That's right, scooter.
I think personally, all the promoters should gather together and have a MASSIVE orgy. No, seriously The idea isn't impossible, it's just outlandish. Rome wasn't built in a day. The most you can do is bring fliers from parties home, and a lot of them, a long with promo discs, as much possible, and fling them out to all your mature buddies that will take consideration in listening. |
