You guys are lucky...for this at least.

It is a shame people in SoCal and Norcal are so stuck in their region and have their blinders on.

The scene is more than the region you are in and I am glad to see the mid-west bringing all this talent out.

I'm a huge raver in Cali, But I have family in Minnesota so if i'm ever out there in the future i'll try and make it to anything from a house party/renegade/underground to a festival like this.

As for next year, I hope this is going off again for such a great price, and i hope it is right before Love Parade in Germany.

Going to this for the weekend and then flying across the ocean to Germany for an EDM/culture festival with 1.5 million people would make my life.

Props to everyone who helped put this together and hope you all have a blast!

P.S. after reading through this whole thread, you guys should put your drama and bullshit aside.

Shit happens.

Try and remember what it is all about. Not the money, not how much a crew comes out with, but the people that you are trying to bring in and resurrect the scene with.

It's about the people and the music.

That being said, even HALF of those DJs would be worth 100 dollars IMO.
and yet right now it is still only 50.

I don't see why anyone in the midwest wouldn't get work off for that weekend, pay 50 for the ticket and maybe 75 for a shuttle or carpool with friends.

In SoCal, that would cost 150+ for earliest pre-sales.

Hold on.

Stop the fucking train....

ARE YOU SMOKING FUCKING CRACK YOU DUMBASS?

Are you really fucking serious right now? right fucking now!? YOU ARE FUCKING SERIOUS?!!?! If you said this to me in person I would punch you in the fucking mouth for being so fucking dumb. You obviously have no clue - HOLY FUCK.

I totally know I'm coming off as an asshat to some people right now, especially the asshat i'm replying to, but FUCK SHIT JESUS!

corporate rave or not. EDC's lineup is fucking SICK - no offense to the local talent playing at memf... but come the fuck on.

I cant even start re-listing names off that flier because its to fucking long to type out and just look at the flier...

MEMF > Ultra???
MEMF > EDC???

The only way I could see your argument even being half valid is if you are a 'hardcore' fanboy and are as equally close-minded as most hardcore fanboys -- but event then your argument holds very little merit.

Different strokes for different folks I always say but common now... Production value alone those parties are FAR.... and by far I mean FUCKING FAR superior to memf in every way, shape and form.

And no, I'm not talking shit about memf here... but we all know infared doesnt have hundreds of thousnands of dollars to pay for that kind of sound and lighting set up for multiple stages. Cut it out right now.

Memf is going to be a fun party - but better than edc and ultra? stfu. i dont want to hear another word from you.

adam you know I love you and all but this is fucking rich dude... you know it as well as I do.

I think both EDC and Ultra are fuckin awesome and i wish i could attend both, every single year.

but in terms of production vs. cost?

i'd rather camp outdoors for 3 days and see 300+ DJs in that many genres with the lights and culture that MEMF has to offer for such a cheap price.

this is without location or people attending factored in.

I rave is both SoCal and Norcal...and i'm friends with a lot of crew out here...i'm starting my own crew next school year as well.

I'm not dumb....i just have a different view then a lot of people.

while i love to see big names, if the overall production is great and the talent is worthwhile, then i'm there. it shouldn't be all about the names, we shouldn't favor something if we don't know what we're going against.

so 300+ names that might not be as world renowned as EDC? psh. i went to How Weird Street Faire in SF the other week and it had 9 stages of music everything from psytrance to ghettohouse to a live PA for electro house and one stage with 5 girls singing to melodic electronic. better than any rave i've ever gone to with the culture there...yet the people i went with only knew 2 or 3 of ALL the DJs.

a name is a name. but a SOUND is a SOUND, a BEAT a BEAT, and a good time just depends on how open you are to the fun being brought.

geee...sorry for supporting your scene?

most people i know would not want to take that risk...or even just admit that fact on a forum.

its the difference between seeing it as a musical world vs. a rave world.

woodstock(when it was prime) vs. coachella?

they each have their purpose.

i think that's the best way to describe it. as much as i love partying in california, for three day festivals like electric daisy carnival you get a lot of more commercial talent but you also lose out on finding something new.

never been to a party in chicago before, but i've been paying attention to a few of the local promoters/talent and notice that they're on the line-up. if everything goes right, i'm going to be STOKED to see them.

it would be fucking rad to see benny benassi, but he actually disappointed me last year at electro techno disco pop (san fran). i had heard much more interesting sets from local talent. in his defense, he kinda made up for it at coachella but i wasn't at coachella for edm and i felt it would be better to focus on other stages where i KNEW i wouldn't be disappointed like i was at pop.

maybe you don't agree with klover but that's your thing. if you love paul van dyk so much, make the trip to so cal and dance your little heart out. i don't see why people have to bust balls cuz someone from a different region is showing a little appreciation for an otherwise UN-appreciated region.

everyone talks about california parties. i didn't even know there were still raves in chicago until i came out here (cali).

dude, i didnt say it was just about names, i went over production as well....

I'm sorry if I like hearing world class headliners on a sound system that will rattle your balls out of your scrotum from 200ft back. And all the while bing in the middle of a horde of people raving their face off 50,000 thick in numbers.

None of that will be present at memf... i know because I know how much money that costs. And there isnt a crew in the midwest with close that amount of loot.

Realistically you compared apples and oranges... and you shouldnt do that.

Memf will be cool in its own respect, but if you ever disrespect a world class production like that again, i'll have to kill you.

1. I'm not busting balls because he appreciates the party. Im busting his balls because he's putting down major massive events that we here in chicago could ONLY DREAM ABOUT having in our fucking back yard. Who the fuck are you to come here and tell us shit we would give our left nuts to have is no good?

2. If you ever accuse me of liking paul van dyke again, i will rip your heart out through your sphincter and feed it to your cold dead corpse with a knife and fork. PVD and such is the clincher that helps 50,000 (people will bliders happen) - the rest of the line up is what matters. And trust me... 90% of them rock face. -- even benny is whatever in comparison to most of them...

Why dont you guys talk about the real talent on those fliers...? oh probably cuz neither of you have a clue... and you talk about bliners.... Chicago, you can STFU as well.

And ftr, i do go to cali for parites.

And they fucking rock.

Regarless of the fact that half the headlining cast is shitty corporate played out trance...

Shit, felix had the best set out of anyone at monster massive last year... and I flew from chicago... go figure... to see him preform on a massive stage for a massive crowd because geee, you sure as fuck cant see that here.

I was never putting EDC down.

just saying that for the amount of production and money i'd rather spend the 3 days at MEMF. is that so hard to understand?

72 hours for 50 dollars 300 djs vs 12 hours 50 dollars and 70(?) Djs?

like i said, i am not putting down EDC.

but even 300 non headliners would promise some fuckin awesome times.

i think im one of the only people in SoCal on these forums that read every single letter and word in the first 9 posts of this thread.

$55 for all that? Are you nuts? dude 2 of those djs, on one of those massive stages on one of those massive sound rigs with one of those massively awesome lighting displays is worth $55... at least.

I feel bad for memf here because again to reitterate, i'm not trying to put down memf. -

If you would rather spend 55$ on this, than that, fine, thats your call, I'm not saying you shouldnt. I'm just saying in regards to your original posting, dont say that memf is better than edc, because it isnt, not in one way, unless you are scouting for new talent, then yes, maybe in that respect, but again no offense... memf doesnt even hold a torch to edc or ultra.

Now quit talking about this and making me repeat my self over and over again. Your point is taken, considered, laughed at considerably by numerous people, let it die.

On with memf discussion.

Cant wait

one more thing... *fun* is a relative term, You cannot really rate how good an event is by how much fucking fun you had at it. Just because you had as shitty time at fucking awesome party doesnt mean that it was a shitty party.

I've had fucking AWESOME times and some really SHITTY parties, because of the people there and the drugs I was on. End of story. Didnt make the *event* any less of a shitty event.

That being said, I've never, in all my partying experience, had more fun at a party than I've had fucking your mom... but I dont go on here raving about how much more fun your mom is than these parties... do i?
