Concerning the drugs/attendance.. i know theyre a crucial part of the scene, im not saying all ravers HAVE to be sober or anything, that would make me a hippocrite, its just i have brought the WRONG type of people to parties to try and beef up attendance. But sometimes its people who dont even give a shit about the music playing, who expect a cocktail of drugs when they step in the door, and in some very bad cases, prey on the girls, start fights, deal crap/fake drugs to try and rip people off, and so on. Theres always some.. i think chicago is comparitively doin good compared to other scenes i have partied in. I do my best to bring people out who enjoy the music and the environment and have a chance of becoming regular partiers. Lately cuz iv heard promotors are loosing $ from no attendance iv been spreading the word and bringin out any random soul who is willing. And when i do bring/meet first timers i try and make sure they have a sweet ass time so theyl come back. But a lot of times when i bring people who just arent into it (The music/environment), they just come to 1 party and thats it... I guess im not the one losing money for attendance (or in general) it so i can see where youre coming from.. but hopefully it wont be as much of an issue one day so you can see the relevance of my point here.
Sorry i really want to touch on this topic a little more. It sucks getting ripped off. It sucks getting into fights, it sucks if your girlfriend gets advantage taken of her. It does. But this is a life lesson for everyone. You will learn more about street smarts going to raves than doing practically any other activity youngins can do. I know because of raves my street smarts are far beyond friends of mine that never got into it. This is exactly the reason for this though, because you either get smart, or you get burnt. Young ladies out there, if you dont want to get advantage taken of you, stick by your friends, dont get too fucked up that you wont know whats going on (no matter how much fun that is lol) - If you dont want to get ripped off, dont buy from people you dont know, or learn how to read people so you can judge if someone seems like an honorable person. You learn how to read people like that by getting ripped off 100 times - after a while you start being able to pick out the bullshit. What doesnt kill you makes you stronger. What it comes down to though is being able to roll with the punches and at the same time, keep a step back and be observant of every little detail of what is going on and how people are. You can learn a lot about people just by paying attention to the little things.

but yeah, thats just the way it is... with any scene, there will always be people you dont want there, don't think raves are anything different or anything special (aside from the fact that we have the best music )

This is getting ridiculous people.
This is a topic about MEMF. Lets talk about how much fun we're going to have, dj's we're looking forward to, what ravers to look for when we're there (like myself, most likely body-painted), ride sharing, tent sharing (who's bringing a grill?), ways to promote the event, and other ways you can get involved to help make the event better!

If you dont' have anything nice to say don't say anything at all!
if that doesn't work for you then take your hate, derision, terrible language and sarcasm and either leave or make a separate topic bitching about how "terrible" and "dead" our midwest rave scene is, and MAYBE we can have a CONSTRUCTIVE, INCLUSIVE discussion on how we can be PROACTIVE to make our events BETTER so more people will come to them. How many people, curious about memf, have come to this topic and been turned off by qaurelling

as hypocritical as this is, I have to say: Rick, please step off your high horse (i've been to this, i've thrown this, blah blah). You're old enough to 1. Have better things to do than scoff at optimistic kids on internet message boards and 2. know better. If you want to retort to me or anyone else then feel free to pm or talk to me in person. That way I can tell you all the reasons why I chose not to go to Light it Up, other than I have the freedom to go to events that I please and have no obligation to such events just to prove I "support this scene." More than once you've posted these "rants" on topics which do NOTHING TO HELP, and often you even apologize later.
I've seen 8 of the top 10 dj's according to DJmag.com, and oh wait, I had more fun at a CHINA BUFFET than any of those shows!

and sorry de la mota, about the m.i.a. stage confusion. I was looking forward to seeing all the MIA's dj's together, maybe you can throw an event of your own soon!

Peace. Love. Unity. Respect. is NOW*

poprox, i didn't hear you making post when the light it up thread went offtopic, or any other thread for that matter. just noting the hypocracy here.

i'm not saying nobody should talk about grills and tents and such things, please do. but dont make special cases for some things and not others. ricks been doing constructive/inclusive/proactive things for the scene probably longer than most of us have been in it. judge him by his actions not his words . even tho theres great truth in some of his words as well.

Fun: A metric SHIT ton. I have this tendency to pretty much dance the entire time music is around... plus I generally do pretty good at hitting any stage for at least a little bit (while I know 5 is a lot less than 19 I managed to hear every DJ at UGS3 last summer... might be harder to hear over 300 though, but I'll try my best). Add in poi (glow and at a min watching fire/getting hugged), hanging with old friends, meeting new friends, going raver fishing there's no way I'd have a bad time. Plus camping=love, IMO people who choose hotel rooms at festivals miss out on too much just so they can feel like they get modern amenities.

DJs: Of course I'm gonna support my locals (some on the main stage and various other stages {50 foot robots having the most}) but I'm probably going to have a better time checking out the locals from other places rather than the big names (even though I'll play by the big names). I like to travel and the idea of hearing and networking with other areas local DJs and ravers make the travel plans that much more glorious.

Ravers to look for: Well I'm down for meeting anyone and every one. So here's what I'll be wearing. (sandals on all days... may be off sometimes while dancing) Day 1: Hot pink long sleeve fishnet top w/baby blue bra, denim mini skirt, hot pink garter and leg tie, hot pink arm fishnets, kandi, and multi colored almost to the ground rexlace hair falls. Day 2: Red crochet bikini top, blue jean capris, red fishnets, the arm fishnets and kandi from before, green/white hair falls I made for St. Patty's day. Day 3 (if I don't just keep on my outfit from day 2, it's possible): white skirt, plaid crop top (very low cut), ditto on the arm fishnets/kandi, tubular crin hair falls. Look for me... I'll have things with my myspace for all the buds I meet (just in the friend request let me know you met me at MEMF).

Camping: Hell yes, not sure where, I'm hoping to get there at 8 am Friday so I'll prime spot picking... maybe I'll figure out a very central area to camp. I'll have water, green tea, and oranges in a cooler if people want/need (and don't have money for the concession stuff but please people if the place is being set up for this and isn't too expensive get yourselves hydrated and with good doses of natural Vit. C).

Carpooling: Very big for any STL people here to read this. I got space for 2 other people in my car and am down for helping out with gas for someone else. I either want to leave at around 3 am Friday or maybe sometime Thursday (who knows, maybe we can find a random spot nearby to hold down fort until Friday morning (or if I know who I'll ride with I have a friend that lives in Chi-town and may ask him about crashing there for the night).

Promoting: Taking the flyers I curently have to club stuff and other events in STL, also planning to taking a bunch to Schwagstock. May have to even bug Infrared for a few more if I do good unloading at Schwag to be prepared for most of June time.

And the party is a month and half away and this is the internet, shit happens.

your mom usually is right, isnt she? Although I dont think i'm not saying *not nice things* I'm saying truthful things. If you want to be close minded and not listen to the knowledge I'm trying to share with you then so be it. That makes you exactly, no different from anyone else.

I wouldnt call this quarrelling. I would call it a heated debate. About something I happen to be extremely passionate about. If you dont like my foul language, seriously suck a dick. Again, this is the internet. Deal with it.

You want to talk about constructive and proactive, yeah, ok... haha wow, you really dont know anything about me then if you think I'm not doing anything constructive or proactive but hey, agian, you have the blinders so I'm not surprised. --- And i wasnt event bitching about how terrible our scene is. I simply made mention of it because golden goose egg rave boy from cali thinks what we have is better... Yeah what we had in 99 was better. But you wouldnt know anything about that now would you?

Why does every raver think that this scene is made up of furries and rainbows? where everyone is having a big circle jerk and drinking everyones cum? Really? Do 1/2 of you have a clue what goes on behind the scenes? Do you know how much shit talking, disrespect, drama and hating goes on? Do you? God you people are so fucking blind.... but no.... plur plur plur! yaya i love everyone ijustatesomanypillsidontknowwhatsgoingonbutiknowil oveyouandiloveravesandifeveryonewouldjustseeitlike me wewouldliveinthisawesomeutopianparadise!

get over it. Its played out. Its old and it sure as fuck isnt how it is in the real world, which is were we actually live in case you were wondering.

Again, how fucking dare you? You show some fucking respect. You didnt earn raves. Going to raves is a privilege, not a right. I never said it was manditory to go to light it up, in fact, if you even read my fucking post you would know that I said I blame my self for the turnout and how I lost my money. We had a bad formula. Maybe you didnt come because it was $30 (though $20 presales u passed on) - maybe you had another party you wanted to support. maybe you just dont fucking like us, maybe you didnt like the artists we booked. I dont give a shit, nor do i care that you didnt come. All i'm saying is, I lost 4 grand on the scene in one night, How much money, exactly, have you lost trying to "help" the scene?

Its bullshit, Thats all coming back to the whole respect issue.

haha, hahahahaha... um ok... you win... you are so right, god damn, i've only been listening to edm for 10 years... probably since you were in single digits in birthdays there... but yeah, i dont know anything so yeah, go on with your bad self. I dont even know who dj mag thinks is the top 10 djs in the world, but hey, your probably one of those people that would leave with the drugs too...
