I was a Rave Kid for the majority of the 90's I went to at least a couple parties a weekend. So I saw the rise and fall basically. I am a recording artist now and much of my music has that spirit and I guess what I was wondering was....Whats good with the scene now?
Is it pretty much still dead? I have seen many fabulous artists at many parties and would love to do that and connect with you all on some level Im just not sure what I would be walking into. So tell me whats up. ![]() |

glowsticks and drugs. that is all.
really though, if you saw the rise and fall in the 90's, nothing today is going to surprise you. for the most part, parties are simply trying to recreate/duplicate what was going on back then. parties range from lofts, to warehouses, to legit venues. the things to watch out for are 1) the promoters, 2) the lineup, 3) the venue (if listed). i work for Seismic Bass promotions, so of course i'll mention them first. the people who run it (rick/bob/colleen) are in it FOR THE PEOPLE. theyre not out to make money, and theyre trying to bring talent to parties outside of the Fantastic 4 music genres. Infared is the promotion group around here known for the biggest parties. i have no idea how they got to that point, but their parties usually have the highest # of rooms, dj's, and attendance. i've always known them to be more partial to Hardcore, but there's usually a good variety at their parties. Source is another reputable promoter that i'll mention. they took a bit of time off after planet rock 2.5 (free make-up party) and are planning something big in the works for ...april? i think. anyways, good people, good parties. be sure to check out Love Is... next weekend (from Infared) and stay on the lookout for upcoming Seismic Bass parties. |

The biggest thing to me that changed is the dancing; but the scene is still fresh, and it takes years for tons of people to be rave dancing like I saw back in the day. I doubt in 91 people were as experienced at dancing as later years. A good thing that changed is that the use of hard drugs like meth, special K and such are not as prevelent as what I saw. Things are developing. The main thing is raves still remain a place to be experimental and enjoy electronic music and your creative self. |

if ketamine hcl -an anesthetic known [in the medical world] for its reliable use in children- is a hard drug, why isn't mdma also?

Never said mdma wasn't. I'm just pointing out what hard drugs are not in the scene from what I can tell. The decline of ketamine, meth, and GHB use is a positive thing for the rave scene.

Pretentious pro drug people.
Pretentious drug free people. People attending for legitimate reasons. It's usually a mix of all those things. It's sort of similar to the club scene, except there are a lot more people willing to talk to you and the clothes aren't as nice. |

zuh? point me in that direction please. i've yet to hear dubstep at a rave in chicago. outside of mr. scruff playing smartbar a little while back (the last third of his set there), i've yet to hear dubstep *at all* in chicago. |
