yeah, as far as i know, source isn't throwing the kickback 3 party so they probably don't really care too much that it's on the same date... another one of those weekends where people just have to decide which party they want to go to if they can't go to both! that's life for ya

that's why one is far away and is a large party in scale, and the other is much closer and is a smaller party in scale. it gives people a choice to either go here, or go there. One party has this kind of vibe, and the other has a different kind of vibe. people have a choice to go see different kind of stuff that night. we're not aiming at the same crowd. it's good this way cuz like i said, you have a choice. oterwise there'd be only one or two things to do that night and that doesn't give people much of a choice. it's halloween you know? there should be hella shit to hit up that night, and we're just one of them

I agree, cheerbear. You all are idiots. Not you guys specifically, but the promoters in Chicago in general. The scene might not be dead, but it's really, REALLY small compared to back in the day. There just aren't nearly enough people to support two parties in a weekend, so if you throw two, then AT BEST, you end up with two parties where people are saying:
"This would be so awesome, if there were a few more people here." Look, I know that days like Halloween and labor day weekend are really tempting days to throw parties, but the problem is that EVERYONE throws parties then. Like those kids that tried to pull off a massive up in Wisconsin when heavy hitters like Tiesto and Deep Dish were throwing down on Northerly Island. Was anyone SURPRISED that turn out was light at family reunion and (I assume) PureNation was filled with only lincoln park yuppies and underage kids that couldn't get up to Wisconsin? Yea yea, it's great that you provide something for people that can't drive an hour and a half. And sure, you can say that, "Well, some people prefer deep house to progressive house" or some thing. The point is that the scene in Chicago ISN'T BIG enough to support that much divisiveness. Look, are you throwing parties because you want to feel important, or are you throwing parties because you love the scene, and you want to make it kick ass pounding bass 5000 Watt laser system awesome? Because the way to do THAT is to TALK with other promoters, COOPERATE in scheduling, COLLABORATE on parties, SUPPORT each other, FLYER for each other, and throw together parties that really MEAN something. Don't give the kids a dozen crappy parties for them to go and do drugs and try desparately to have a good time. Bring ALL the folks together. Put some fucking EFFORT into layout and visuals. Take some PRIDE in your work so that when you look around in the hour before the doors open, your skin starts to tingle and you just KNOW it's going to be special. It ain't about "House" music, or "Trance" music, or ecstacy, or looking good, or hooking up, or showing off your moves or any of that bullshit. The Rave scene is about a bunch of people coming together in a forest of music and friends and bringing your energy and vibe to share, and dancing your hardest cause you know everyone else is too, and meeting new people, and loving them all just for being there, and giving all praise to the music, and god, and the promoters for proving that magic can be touched and felt. And you can't HAVE that when people are throwing half assed parties, and competing with each other, and focusing on "How can we make OUR party different so that people will come to it," instead of "How can we make a party that will forever be someone's favorite memory?" And please, don't give me that bullshit about, "We had it on our calendar for months." And what, you thought that maybe the Saturday before Halloween there WOULDN'T be a dozen other parties going on? I mean, a dozen other parties aside from the normal bar/club/concert extravaganzas that ALWAYS happen around that time of year. If you want the scene to survive, you gotta work together. Don't throw more parties, throw fewer, but make them GOOD, and the people WILL come. |
