What I was told about Paladin was told to me by Adam, owner of Infared. That's a bit different than hearsay. But regardless, I'll get that explanation.

Yeah, I was most definatley looking forward to Paladin myself. I was really excited cuz it looked like everyone who was at the fest was going to see him, but when he didn't show everyone just headed out of that room, and rumors were flying around. I personally don't know what to believe about the whole situation, but I was definatley let down. If infared had known about this earlier in the day then the price should have dropped that day and announcements should have been posted so people wouldn't have gotten so worked out. It's a lot better to admit the probelm before the fact. I heard about a lot of other shit too, let's just say that if your a DJ/Atendee who's coming out to play/party you shouldn't have to pick up trash in the parking lot. I did have a good time at this, however if I had payed the money to get in I would have been pissed off too. I'm just going to say this once because I really don't like bitching online about shit, but in order to progress this scene we need to stay away from the bullshit politics and shady promotion that killed the rave scene in the first place.

As far as talent goes, this event is to expose aspiring DJs.
I wanted to comment on this, because this was my main reasoning for playing in the first place. I put a lot of effort into Djing over the past 6 years and have spent well over $10 grand on this hobby, I love Djing, I love Producing, and for once I thought I'd get to have the music I love played to an audience of people from all over the midwest (and states for that matter). However it's really hard to pull off a good set when there's no crowd to feed off of. I'm sure many of the Dj's that played feel the same way considering there weren't too many people at most stages. Another thing that I'm really worried about is having my name linked with this company, I really don't want people there actions to drag down my love. Thats all I'm saying.

It's Bai-ee

Isn't it ironic how MEMF was in part aimed to somehow recapture or mimic the Further events in one way or another, yet Frankie Vega whom was in part responsible for those events was stuck playing our stage (billed as #4) located in the beef shack next to stage #19?! Same thing goes for Source, billed as stage #3 but located in front of us at an arguably worst location? I mean come on... I don’t personally care about FORCEFULLY shoving the music that TRUE SCHOOLERS KNOW built this scene down every new school kids throat, but we EXPECTED to be taken care of as stages billed # 3 & 4 representing Chicago. We set out to rep JUST A LIL BIT of what every mid to old schooler exposed to this event knew was missing from the line-up: INFLUENTIAL AND PIONEERING DJ’S / PRODUCERS WHO BROUGHT THIS MIDWEST SCENE UP FROM THE DEEPEST AREAS OF OUR URBAN LANDSCAPES to CREATE an entire community of EDM...

Does ANYBODY from Infared have a clue about what this scene was built on, who was involved and what music created them the opportunity to even host a “MEMF” in the first place? Or are they all so concerned about hyping themselves, and whatever commercial nationwide red headed step child music they are all trying to infiltrate our Midwest sound with that they'll bill Frankie Vega, Craig Alexander, DWC & Angel Alanis on stages 3 & 4, but then have them perform on stage 18 & 19 locations?!

Infared and all thier residents that allowed this needs a bitch slap.

I am very glad people took the time and had the faith to come to chicago for this event. In the late 90s and early years of 2000 I can remember when the sounds systems at our parties started to diminish as well as the light shows.. At MEMF i would have liked to see the two main stage sounds systems combined maybe one in the rear and the other in front. Set up all the lazers and lights from them together. Toward the end of the night they started shutting down the smaller stages, I urged the people who set those stages to see about bringing some extra lazers or lights they had into the main room because it def needed some.. Most of them were upset they were being shut down and did not want to contribute. I think what we need in chicago is more unity.. Set the parties up like the old days.. one Huge sound system and a massive display of visual and lights/lazers. Back in the day this is what would draw me to parties .. not to mention the artists but ya. Bring everyone together.. Bring the proper elements together, and select a lineup that transitions nicely throughout the night, and that everyone can enjoy.

As for the M8 from England.. Parties in from 94 till about 98 were very powerful, the anti-rave law had not hit and we still had support from many surrounding cities parties kids ect. Things fell apart after the law passed.. alot of our key venues were not available promoters moved on to other parts of the US that were not as effected.. and so did alot of our friends. So we were left with very little.. I can say that I've noticed a determined scene mounting strategic moves.. My only suggestion is that multiple stages should be condenced into one main sound stage with all the lighting.. bring everyone together .. stand united! We don't have the numbers we used to, or the reputation. And that silver dome in chi-downtown.. da shi was built for us.. we need to get authority to use it. = )

Thats a promotion company killer right there. Never should you not pay your headliners because of a low turnout. And If you cannot afford it, you shouldn't be throwing events. Why does all of your paying attendees have to suffer because of your failure to produce a good line up with good promoting? They still paid a ridiculous price to see the mediocre Djs that you booked. BoogieTribe died when they through LOTD5 and didn't pay their second night of headliners to save money. I never trusted giving them one cent of my hard earned money after they did that. How funny history repeats itself again.

I kept my mouth shut till after the party to voice my opinion to avoid drama. But as a Midwest Promoter this really pissed me off. Its an embarrassment to put the name MEMF on such a horse shit event that is supposed to represent the midwest. Infared had no business trying to throw a three day fest. They don't have the funding. That's why I didn't go. Why do you think the party was so expensive with a shitty line up? Because they can't afford it. Matter of fact they can't afford to throw good parties either. They are always cheap about it because they do not make enough money in "real life" to be promoters.
I agree MEMF was a disappointment and an embarrassment to the midwest and to the very values and fabric that held our scene together for the many years.

you don't pay 60 dollars to see good djs you have never heard of. you pay 60 for a whole bunch of world renowned talent.

I'll definitely get a full explanation. What I had written was what was said to me quickly because I was on my way out of the place back to O'Hare to pick up more people.
Yes he did and Just for the record that flier that went to print was not the one that was suppose to go to print. They are out ther anbd circulating and as you will be able to see he hogged the whole back for himself, and eliminated all the pictures of our local and out of state talent. can you say "Overzealous", but hey what am i to do. it was a mistake from my camp and i will just have to live with it. Apologies to all that are affected by it, but if you have any questions or comments he will be there to answer them for you on the 12fth.

A full writeup would be excellent from IR.

Yeah the fact that they are not defending themselves just looks even worse. they should come out with some kinda public statement. I would like to know what they have to say about the whole thing.
