BREAKS / ELECTRO / HOUSE
The New Guard | TrashMenagerie.com

Local Hero's enthusiasm for electronic music emerged in high school, as drum and bass crept into Chicago's urban landscape, but his musical influences began at birth. Growing up in an artistic family surrounded by electronic music, his parents kept him up all night dancing and listening to the likes of Talking Heads and Jean Luc Ponty. In middle school the sounds of Cajmere's "The Percolator" echoed off hall lockers, grabbing the young hand of soon-to-be Local Hero. It wasn't, however, until the breakbeat, in the form of Big beat and early jump up jungle, crossed his path that he knew that music was not only his past but his future. He has a bachelors degree in Acoustics, which applies heavily to his control of the dance floor and his understanding of club DJing. In his spare time he designs sound systems and acoustic environments for clubs, performance halls, studios and other entertainment venues. Local Hero's performances are composed artistic layering, be it old school or new school, tech or disco, to create a poetry of sound and texture interspersed with quick cuts and deviceful mixing. Local Hero's improvisational mixing is tempered by a scientific approach to structuring the sound and stoked by his intuitive connection with the crowd.

Hailing from the resplendent city of Chicago, Local Heros DJing career has been an uphill battle. Pushing through a sea of house music, his unique style of all things fun and eclectic, be it breaks, jungle, house, electro, and many other esoteric subgenres, has earned him a regular place in the Chicago music scene. As one of the founders (along with Tolgar) of Base 10 Breaks, he has regularly thrown the only regular breaks parties in Chicago. Their brainchild, Algorhythm at the recently revived Lava Lounge, brought some of the best breaks DJs from around the world as well as highlighting some of the talented locals that grace the small but loyal Chicago breaks scene. It is this affinity for breaks that sets him apart from your typical “electro” DJ. Local Hero is able to apply the turntablism associated with spinning breaks and incorporate into his strongly electro based sets while maintaining the high-energy of that genre!

His most recent venture, The New Guard at Tini Martini, had become a bastion for all the disillusioned Chicago heads that crave something beyond the same old party. Currently, besides regularly DJing all over the country, Local Hero devotes his energy to Trash Menagerie, a highly regarded music blog that focuses on finding and displaying the most innovative, new music artists and DJs that the world has to offer. He also holds down a weekly radio show, The Mathlab Sessions, every Friday from 7-9 CST on the world’s largest, most popular breaks website in the world, nuskoolbreaks.co.uk.

HARD HOUSE
Hardkore Records | Distorted Trauma | Infared

Elekid got his start as 'DJ Statico' back in late '97, playing Chicago Hard House for drunken high school kids. In '99 he started spinning Happy Hardcore and Gabber to compliment the Hard House that he played. In '01, Elekid finally started playing for people at raves and small clubs around Chicago. It wasn't until '02 when he finally started breaking out of his local scene and start playing across the country in cities such as Minneapolis, Charlotte, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Columbus (OH), and many more. This was also around the time when he started playing Freeform and Trancecore alongside his other styles of Electronic Dance Music. Today you will find Elekid pouring his heart out into all of his sets that he plays all across the country. Expect the unexpected from this unique individual. You can never be sure what kind of Hardcore he'll play or if he'll play US Hard House. You can be sure though, that he will bring nothing but quality and emotion to the decks every time.

DJ Jade has established himself as a fixture on the club and Underground party scene in Chicago and New York including the monster Drum and bass club Konkrete Jungle. For the past six years Jade has been bringing the hardest, newest tunes around and always has the dance floor grooving. With his exceptional mixing skills and superb track selection he is a guarantee to have you shaking your ass and bring you down to shake-it-town.

BREAKBEAT / ACID TECHNO LIVE PA
Seismic Bass Productions | Intergruv Networks

Contemporary Breakbeat/Acid Techno Live PA DJing Hybrid! Ready to experiment with technology and music? Here we go! Using Ableton Live, I'm DJing Breakbeat tracks + Custom effect modules. Rewired into another track is Rebirth, with 2 303"s, an 808, and a 909. All effects and parameters are highly performable, mapped to an Akai MPD24. The result at times sounds like contemporary Breakbeat, but other times, the Breaks get chopped and remixed, while the 303's rock out and the 808 beats you with it's bass drum. Other times everything is happening at once! It's highly experimental and unpredictable, and is recommended listening for those looking for fresh sounds, and fans of Breaks and Acid techno. Software enthusiasts should also enjoy the Ableton/Rebirth interplay and precision controlled performance! All women will leave the dance floor pregnant. I guarantee it.

BREAKBEAT - WASHINGTON DC
Essential Breaks | The Midnightsons

DJ Lantern has been playing for over half a decade. Raised in Northern Virginia he’s risen to the top of the D.C. Baltimore club circuit. Having a number of high profile gigs, he has gained much respect in the local surrounding DC area. A master of mixed genres, his best skills are displayed in Breaks and Hard House but has been caught playing just about every other genre in the EDM dictionary. Lantern is currently holding residency in DC at Essential Breaks @ Club Five and in VA @ Transit, where he has been pushing the nuschool funk sound of breaks and has been getting more than a flavorable reaction from the dance floor. Over the past few years, DJ Lantern has locked down a huge number of gigs in many different cities. One look at his gigs list should offer a glimpse at the high level of dedication Lantern puts forth towards his craft. DJ Lantern has played along or opened with such acts as Donald Glaude, Josh Wink, Richard Humpty Vission, Dj Micro, Jackal and Hyde, Dieselboy, Hive, Dj Icey, Dj Craze, Sharaz, Dieselboy, AK1200, DJ Fixx, Deekline and Wizard, The Rouge Element, Tom Real, Dj Mutiny, NAPT, Paul Oakenfold, Sandra Collins, John B, Lisa Lashes, Mauro Picotto, Lee Coombs, Scott Henry, Baron, DB, Dj Dan, Elite Force, Reid Speed, High Contrast, Mampi Swift, Charles Feelgood, Rabbit In The Moon, Baby Anne and many more. He’s dropped his science in various cities on both sides of the Atlantic, such as D.C., Baltimore, Philly, Richmond, Pittsburgh, Nashville, Miami, NYC and London. DJ Lantern is one of the rare few Yankees who (alongside DJ Proxxy, the main man behind DC Breaks and Essential Breaks), were invited to play at Herbal, Medicine Bar and The End nightclub in London. Without a doubt, DJ Lantern is a true Breakbeat enthusiast for the D.C. area and beyond...

ELECTRO / HOUSE
Eclectic Grooves Productions

Knex has been a staple part of the Chicago music scene for years. His musical training began at the age of ten and progressed into his profession in 96 with the art of turntablism. He is and always will be a music pioneer, because he understands the importance of the past and the future of sound. His influences range from Kraftwerk and O.M.D. to Earth Wind & Fire and the Hot Mix 5. With his extensive technical knowledge of analog and digital software he strives to push the boundaries of audio into a single, continuous sound. His sound is electro-breaks fused with 80s new wave and he never forgets the funk. His wide variety of musical awareness is exhibited in all that he does; from forming the underground music collective Eclectic Grooves, to throwing memorable underground warehouse parties and inventive club nights.

Knex has shared the stage with some of the worlds most sought after djs such as Freaky Flow and DJ Keoki. He has opened for DJ Icey and Dave Ralph at the infamous Whistle parties in Philly. His past club residencies include Zentra, Bettys Blue Star Lounge, Kinetic Playground, Ontourage and Spy Bar just to name a few. Knex is one half of a live PA team known as 689, the other half is Josh Naster. Together they create an extraordinary sound experience that combines turntables and a full analog based live PA. Knexs ability to mesmerize a crowd into motion has made him a desired performer around the U.S.
