Hey whats up people. I'll be taking a little leave (aka vacation) to Chicago this Christmas and I've been looking at some articles on the web about the "death" of the Chicago rave scene. Is this true? I'll be meeting up with a few friends over the holiday and I'd really like to find a decent party. I've been to a few in Los Angeles but I guess I'm still sort of a newb to the scene.
I saw the Winter Wonderland stuff, I'll be coming in too late. Anything going on between the 23rd to New Years? Just looking to loose my mind before the military does it for me. -Later |

i got a party for you on christmas and NYE. both should be good. the christmas party is called House Music Bash 2 with all the Godfathers of chicago House (farley jackmaster funk, ron trent, etc). Its being held at the Black Hole, an arcade on the southside. the best party i went to was held there on christmas of 1998 and it also was a house party. the best night of my life....check the flyer on Midwestravers.com in the upcoming events form. It might be back a page. keep in mind this party will be bumping until 6AM and is 21+ plus.
the NYE party will be big. its being held in a warehouse in the southloop close to downtown. its going to have 3-rooms and the promoters, True Family Unit, have a long history of throwing straight up parties. initially i predicted 3000+ but i spoke with TFU and their estimates are lower. they predict we'll get 1000 local and maybe 200-400 out of state. so we're looking at 1200-1400, which is still a really good turnout. acidman and frankie vega will be playing. also refer to the same forum section of MWR for info. i will be hitting |

As for the parties on NYE, New Years Gruv or Countdown 06. I'm not familiar with the DJs from either one, what do you guys think will be a better party?

They're both at warehouses... It just depends what you wanna hear. House, techno, trance, and drum'n'bass with internationally recognized headliners? Then go to New Year's Gruv. If you wanna hear mostly just Drum'n'Bass with local headliners then go to countdown? Countdown is on the southside in the hood, and New Year's Gruv is on the northside in an industrial area with lots of parking. There's also another one on Milwaukee as well now too being thrown by TFU. Otherwise you have options like House of Blues, Hard Rock, Marriot, Hyatt, Hilton, Crobar, Vision, Zentra, Smartbar, Soundbar, Spybar, etc, etc... I say just party hop, but if you want the best line up by far at a extremely reasonable price, check out the Greenskeepers, Steve Poindexter, Precyse, and Eyekon at New Year's Gruv. The Greenskeepers are worth the admission price alone. They just played in Australia, and will be in Hong Kong a week after the show. If you saw them at the WMC, you'd know what was up. Their shows are off the chain. It's very unique indeed. Normally they perform infront of a few thousand, but this is going to be an intimate show with a few hundred. You'll actually be able to kick it with them.
