Alright so I'm new to raving, not new to forums. I know how these things work. Noobs ask questions, regulars jump throats, lots of random bitching and swear words occur.
Let's skip that part. There's only so much you can read about on google, I want to know from people who've actually been to raves and delt witht he different types of people you find. What's there to know about raves? I'm posting this in here because it's closer to home than anywhere else. Every scene has ups and downs, the people who make you proud to be in that scene and the ones who make you wish you'd chosen something else. Who's like that with raving? What's so big about Kandi kids? And why are there so many different versions of hardcore, and is it supposedly good or bad? I know I won't learn any of this personally until I experiance it, but it's worth a shot. Enlighten me. -Rahslynn |

If theres one thing I've learned about the rave scene in my short time, it's that no matter what rave you go to, you are basically guaranteed to find more good people then bad, you can always look forward to meeting new people and making new friends. About the music and hardcore, that's highly subjective.

And why should I forget about the word Hardcore?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are more good than bad considering most people just want to dance around and have fun. That's one of the most appealing things to me at the moment. |

y do we have to fucking skip the swear words? what the shit =[
whats so big about kandi kids: nothing. there aren't really alot of them in the midwest at all(compared to other scenes like cali). and they generally get looked down upon by the oldest members of the scene here. i dont mind them, party would be more boring without them. if your going to be one tho i think it should be because u believe in the idea of kandi and not just in love with the rave lifestyle(sans the music). so many versions of hardcore: theres so many SUB GENRES of everything in edm. this'll get u started on those: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (ishkur). lotta ppl dont like the over classification of edm, stating; 'just listen to the music, maannnnn'. personally i dig it as it helps me find what i want quicker, i've only been into the stuff for a few years. bitchfuckcock! |

My point on the swear words is that people get their panties in a twist and go "fuck -random bitch- fuck -sarcasm- bitchfuckcock -nothing intelligent at all- shitcuntwhore" and the whole post is nothing but idiocy.
Thanks for the link, I'll look into it. So what else is there to know about raves? Is it one of those things where everyone fits in as long as you're rolling? Or nobody is really paying attention to what you're doing anyway? Are there down periods between DJs? What do people do when the music stops? Stuff like that. |

come to a party then and draw your own conclusions. a party is whatever you want it to be. if you wanna listen to music all night, go ahead. if you wanna dance all night, go ahead. if you wanna just talk to people and meet cool new people from all over the midwest, go ahead. some people choose to get fucked up, some don't.
the point of going to parties is that nobody gives a shit what you do or what you look like. everyone is family when you step foot inside any event. everyone's experience and exptations differ and everyone gets something different out of each party. some have a good time, and some don't. which type of person are you? |

Kandi ravers, well what would a "rave" be without them. For the most part they are good people who enjoy dressing goofy. When I first got into the scene I had been listening to the music for several years and was up on what was going on with edm. I went to my first party solo just so I could scope it out and decide whether or not I was into it. I actually had a blast mainly due to just digging the music and getting a contact high from the whole experience. That night I didnt talk to anyone (I think I was nervous), but the next time I went I made a pact to myself to just start talking with people (this actually kinda cured my shyness) and made some friends who I still have to this day (4 years later). I know this isn't a normal thing, however I knew that most of my friends weren't into this shit and I kinda wanted to party on my own terms and not here "dude this is weird lets go" at some point. It's really hard to give advice to someone on raving or even attending their first rave just because it really is so subjective. Obviously your into it if you've been researching it on google, but the one thing no website will tell you (well shit, maybe they will, lol) is that if you tell yourself your going to have a good time at the party keep your vibe up and stay positive...you'll have a good time. I hope this helps you on your quest for teh raveness. I highly reccomend you check out that Rhythm Box event tonight cuz Woody McBride is a fucking midwest legend, and knows how to jack that shit. Oh yeah, its also a pretty diverse lineup. oh party for the right reasons to. |

you will fit in whether you're on drugs or not. IMHO, this is sort of a community of misfits in some ways.
also, i have been to many a rave without ingesting any psychoactives, & 99% of the time if someone mentions they saw me at a party i was sober at they assume i was completely fucked up. ;] make of that what you will, i suppose. |
