I really don't understand why venues like smartbar are 21+. I realize that it's because they serve alcohol but there are other venues that serve alcohol with a wristban and it's 18+ to enter. I spent my entire second semester abroad in Argentina having an amazing time going to dance clubs and festivals and bars and other places I know in the USA would be 21+. And I never once abused alcohol in those places. Now all of the sudden I'm back in the USA and I'm not allowed to enjoy the things I enjoyed abroad just because I'm not of age to drink. I'm considered an adult at the age of 18, but I'm not allowed to go to a dance club.

I know the drinking age is heavily debated by the underage crowd, but coming from my standpoint, I don't even freaking care if I can have a drink or not. I just want to go out and dance!

There are always events I see at SmartBar I am interested in attending, so I am wondering, do any of you know if there is a chance I could get my name on a list or something, or if I might be able to talk to the owners? I would hate to miss all these events just because I'm not of age to drink, while I wont even be having a drink if I attend.

Sorry it’s against the law for anyone under the age of 21+ to enter SmartBar or any other "tavern" in the State of Illinois. It’s the State and City that makes these rules and regulations, not the venue.

The reason some "venues" are 18+ like the metro/congress/etc is because majority of their sales are "ticket based" and not "alcohol based." Majority of sSmartBar’s sales are "alcohol based." Each type of venue needs a specific license, which is obtained thru the city/state.

Only venues/bars/establishments that the had majority of theirs sales "alcohol based" were the only places that were allowed smoking rights. If your venue made more in ticket or other sales (food, entertainment) then you we're not allowed to smoke in that venue. Example: Smoking in concert halls, bowling alleys, restaurants was banned.
