I've not read the previous part of the thread, but you really can't speak for "the scene" if you've not been to real american raves in So-Cal, where PLUR is present every place you look.

LOL I started raving in the So-Cal scene! Began a loooooong time ago and stayed in there a loooong time too. I was even part of a promotion crew that threw 7 parties. I know what I am talkin about... at least as far as Cali, NY, Mass, Conn., NJ, VA, and comparin them to raves in Holland and the UK. I got enough creds to back my play... its all good.

I couldn't speak for when you were in California, but from my experience there PLUR is more than living, it's thriving.

Sorry but you are wrong, the facts i posted are right. House is still "rave" in chicago....mark almaria anyone?

There shouldnt be some division between the club scene and the "rave" scene, its all electronic music. Schisms ruin everything,

I disagree about separating rave and club scene, and really hope you have been to actual raves. It might just depend upon the person, but that could be the only factor I could see in not seeing raves as a very separate deal.

with the exception of TWO events, mark almaria hasnt been around in the chicago rave scene for about a year now. hes been remixing and producing, and has recently started coming back...and yes, is the better example of house music in raves.

however, i would say that for the most part, house music IS NOT the popular choice anymore @ raves. think of the last time you saw a headliner like dj dan, bad boy bill, steve smooth, colete, justin long, CZR, Reese urban, Angel Alanis etc on a flyer? NOT IN YEARS.

house has taken a plunge, which sucks IMO. and yes, i too have noticed that the angrier/harder music has taken a lot of foothold...however, most of that shit rocks! hard techno, phat breakbeats, squelch effects, rubberband bass and everything inbetween IMO have a more grounded base in EDM than a bunch of flute and congo samples. dont get me wrong, i love house...its just most house out there is kinda shitty, cause most of the people producing/playing it, havent moved outta 99. soulful house is dead and boring IMO...people wanna feel EXHILIRATION when they are dancing. thats why the harder styles reign. whats better when youre going apeshit at a party? 'get get down' (which is a good song, dont get me wrong) or 'smack my bitch up'?

*shrug*

I haven't been to a club in years, so the scene could have changed, but I found the club scene very shallow and pedantic. Also it seemed like the clubs played alot a "Barbie Pop", the kind of music you used to hear on 92.7 about 4 years ago. At least for me, HHC is the closest thing to "club" music that can be played at a rave.

Yes i have been to many "raves," I dont particularly like that word just because of all the negativity thats associated with it, and the fact that there needs to be an evolution and a new idea dropped on the scene.

Whats the point of there being a schism between the scene? Look at some of the lineups for club events, they are insane (example:Collabs on oct. 27th), if you think all music that is played at clubs is a whole nother world then perhaps you just need to familiarize yourself with the artists playing a bit more. I mean granted tehre is a difference between say Billy the kid and Delta 9, but shit both Dj's in there own way get people dancing, and expressing themselves to music. Which is essentially what both scenes are about (rather should be).

I think that most people who coin themselves as "ravers" (honestly whats the point of labeling yourself as something) have a problem with "clubbers" because, of the importance of looking good and being seen, etc. But how is that different from spending hours making kandi bracellets, and deciding what color of phat pants your going to wear? If you look at it from a wide perspective its a stress on looking a certain way, etc. Honestly I wish we all could unite and put aside our differences and just dance, and not have these 2 seperate scenes.

Thats my $0.02 take it or leave it, our scene isn't strong and schisms aren't going to fix it.
