DE LA MOTA < m.i.a. tour this fall book it now [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Raised in the mid 80's he was exposed to electronic music and b-boy culture early on in his life growing up in the back of the yards and Mc Kinley park neighborhoods of Chicago Illinois. By his teens he was into hip-hop, graffiti and underground culture attending Loft and undergrounds. In 1993 he attended his first rave and a year later he began to DJ. Starting off as a jungle dj in Chicago was a hard thing since it is the house music capitol but he was dedicated to this renegade sound and stuck with it to this present day. Since 1994 Alfonz has played in just about every venue that would hear him, from the legendary raves in front on thousands of people to some of the most intimate undergrounds and clubs. He has played all across the Midwest from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and as far as the east coast in Troy NY, Albany NY, New York Cities Konkrete Jungle and many times during the WMC in Miami FL. In 2002 he founded Sur America Records and released two 12" records SUR001 by Out Of Order and SUR002 by Danny the Wildchild and Locked & Loaded (alfonz de la mota & myke d). Currently on tour promoting his latest project "Sur America Digital" new DNB Mp3 label and co-founding the M.I.A. collective with combat records owner m1d1 with over 20 current DJ/members who are all dedicated to the harder sounds of dnb and are looking to cause a major spike in the dnb activity in the midwest. After teaming up with Mental Software & ASCII Productions in '95 M1D1(known as Frosty) has worked with almost every major Production crew in Chicago's rave history. Helping to create a VERY large underground party scene and some great, great, times. It wasn't long before Frosty's focus turned to writing music. From throwing parties, to performing, and everything in between Frostylung was a name ya knew! Having a musical background as a drummer, it is not suppressing his first piece of electronic equipment was a drummachine. With his roommate, FelixStone, Frosty wrote and performed LIVE PA's at many late 90's raves in Chicago. Later, in 1999, Frosty and R.P.Smack(RIPE Prod.) joined forces with Fonz DLM (SkyHigh/BoogieTribe) to create a 'SuperProduction Co.' and bring Chicago a 'new' OldSkool party scene! Although Drum&Bass is his passion, M1D1 is very busy with many projects, including playing drums for 'Drug Honkey' , producing Hip-Hop artists, Down-Tempo, Industrial, and playing drums in an Indie-Rock band.. Out Of Order is the DNB team made up of M1D1, Techlife, and Nanotech. In 2004 OOO released 3 records, 2 of which are on M1D1's DNB label COMBAT RECORDS. Being professionally trained at a young age on a variety of instruments, music was something he was destined to spend the rest of his life doing. Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's he was exposed to so much music. At that time there was allot of music that was starting to form its own personality and he just felt the need to embrace it whether it was, heavy metal, hip-hop, funk, house, or jungle. From there is where he felt the need to be part of what was out there. "i saw and heard all this music and i knew that all i wanted to be was a rockstar". In 1995/96 he started going to various rave parties where he became exposed to the underground scene. The following year he began djing, and in 1998 started promoting parties with various production groups in Chicago, which led to more gigs as a dj. In 2000 Marko became a resident dj on the Jungle Warfare show which had ran for over a year and a half. Also in 200 with no sight of things slowing down, but only getting bigger, marko co-created Better Beat Specialists, a production group which focused primarily on events, djing, and electronic music. In 2002 Marko took a break to pursue other musical interests to only see him come back in the winter of 2003, pushing harder than ever Drum and Bass, and its stateside scene. In 2004 Marko was picked up by two of Chicago's biggest DNB labels, Sur America Records and Combat Records, and shortly there after along with Alfonz De La Mota embarked on the Chicago Sol Tour. That same year after watching DNB become stagnant in his local scene, Marko along with Dj Addyct went on to create Beatdown Chicago, a weekly Drum and Bass night as well as Full Throttle Events. Marko has played coast to coast alongside some of the biggest names in the business such as X-cutioners, Jazzy Jeff, and Christopher Lawrence just to name a few. Currently Marko is splitting his time touring and working on producing. So be on the lookout for releases from The Oracle late this year as well as him rocking a venue near you. Contact:[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] DJ Addyct (aka Jeremy Lawn) is the middle child of a couple old-school hippies. Growing up around a guitar, a van and his dad's collection of wax... he was destined to travel the musical road. Since the early 90's he's been attending house parties, raves, clubs and special events across Chicago, the suburbs and the US. Addyct was quickly hooked by the hard core, heavy metal sounds of artists like Dillinja, Bad Company, Total Science, Roni Size and countless others. Already a self-taught musician and a huge fan of drum&bass, he took to the decks in 1998. Addyct spent the next couple of years refining his live sound at various local venues and parties, recording studio mixes and plugging his sets into all open ears. In 2001 he formed the New Urban Jazz (NUJ) duo with Eric the Red, and began guest-DJ'ing with different experimental bands. Mixing hip-hop and drum&bass with the human-generated tempos, he gave both audiences and bands a funky surprise at some of Chicago's legendary live music venues. Addyct continued to spin underground parties and shows, sharing the bill with a range of artists like Crucial Conflict, Mark Farina, EN2, Bad Vibes, Phantom45, Psidream and Evol Intent... all while further darkening his style and finding common musical ground with much of Chicago's junglist community. In 2004, after being booked on the same DNB bill, Addyct joined forces with DJ Oracle. With support from established Chicago labels Sur America and Combat Records, the fresh-from-Atlanta masterminds Section9, and number one street-sweeper DJ Oddball... the Beatdown was born. Soon after came Full Throttle events, and the birth of the M.I.A. - Chicago's hardest drum & bass collective of over 20 multi-talented DJ's and producers, founded by DJ's Alfonz De La Mota and M1D1. DJ Addyct is currently working on new studio recordings, the Beatdown radio show, and playing club and special events. Dedicated to the dark side, DJ Addyct has successfully gained recognition from artists and fans beyond the midwest, and is turning the world's ears to the factory-fresh styles of Chicago Drum & Bass. RIFLEMAN
IN THE MID NINETIES WHILE RAVING AND LISTENING TO GABBER HOUSE, I FIRST HEARD JUNGLE. AT THAT MOMENT I WAS CAPTIVATED BY IT. THE FIRST JUNGLE THAT WAS PLAYED LOCALLY WAS HIP HOP INFLUENCED JUMP UP AND DEEP AMENS, AROUND '96 I GOT A TASTE OF TWO STEP OR TECH STEP DRUM AND BASS.ALONG WITH THE INFLUENCE OF EVERY MIND ALTERING SUBSTANCE I COULD LOCATE, I WAS SEARCHING FOR THE ILLEST JUNGLE / DRUM AND BASS RIDDUMS. SINCE '97-98 I HAVE PLAYED CLUBS AND RAVES IN CHICAGO AND THE BURBS, VARIOUS CITIES AND TOWNS IN WISCONSIN AND INDIANA. I CURRENTLY REPRESENT AMPED MEDIA AND THE M.I.A. COLLECTIVE OUT OF CHICAGO. I AM CURRENTLY A RESIDENT @TEXTURE TUESDAYS A LOCAL CLUB NIGHT THATS HELD AT CHEERY RED.. INCIDENT. part of rawdeal tagteam crew with rifleman and residemt amped media dj. and member of the M.I.A. BIG FIRE This is for all the pioneers......................... Big Fire, MIA. Growing up with a love of all forms of music, The Fire took and interest in guitar and songwriting. Starting in what he considered a late age of 16, he played out any of the guitar driven jams that could be heard over the radio. Something started to spark an interest in recording and overdubbing certain "riffs" over and over. This eventually led to having the thoughts that you might like to control all the aspects of music. So Mr Fire found his way with the help of a couple of close freinds(Kyle Anderson + Steven Schlottman). He began the long journey that one must take to hopefully accomplish being a producer. In this time he found himself listening to more and more electronic music. Eventually was strung into drum and bass and picked up a pair o decks. Mixing proved to be one of his musical strong points and growing as a dj helped him learn to become a better producer. Always on the lookout for technichal knowledge and looking to push the envelope turned in to daily life for The Fire. The Struggle continues................. His love for early Industrial and electronic music ultimitely lead to his insatiable lust for sped up breakbeats and basslines. It all started back in 1998 when he picked up a copy of Roni Size's New Forms on Talkin' Loud. Zebediah's selection and seamless blending are of his prime assets; whether he's playing the smoothest of liquid or the darkest soul twisting amen edits, you can expect it all to be funky and downright danceable! Boh! [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] SECTION9 Section 9 is a two-man dnb production/dj ensemble based out of Chicago, IL. Made up of Jeremy Stacy (aka Aamano) and Alex Borodin (aka Nano), the duo came together in November 2004 when they wrote a remix of the opening theme song to the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series. Borrowing the name of the special forces unit from the Ghost in the Shell franchise, the two were from that point on known as Section 9. Since then, they have performed regularly around Chicago as members of the Beatdown Chicago crew and the M.I.A. Collective. They have also appeared in Rinse Magazine - a magazine focused on North American DnB. Jeremy was born & raised in Atlanta, GA and witnessed the scene develop & grow there from back when Evol Intent just a local act and Mayhem was just starting to form the ideas for Shadow Law Recordings. He learned the scene and players by assisting in throwing events like Bad Co's Inside the Machine tour and contributing to websites like us-jungle.com and americandnb.com . He left Atlanta to attend university where he studied writing and computer music composition. He helped organize the World Globalization and Interactive Media Conference in 2002 shortly before moving to London. Returning to the United States as an absolute junkie for dnb, he began to work for Breakbeat Science Recordings and their sister label Orgone. He began throwing a weekly in Manhattan, Crimson Tuesdays, while assisting with Fracture Wednesdays in CT and began building a studio. It was at that time he also joined the Rinse Magazine staff (issue #2). Seeking a change of pace & surroundings, he moved to Chicago in 2004. Alex Borodin is a true outlaw. An expatriate of Belarus, he moved to the United States in '93 and landed in Atlanta, GA. Incidentally, though around the same crews and collectives as Jeremy, the two never met in Atlanta. Under the name Nano, Alex started to produce dnb and gathered local and international attention with his talent. Thanks to work, in 2003 he found himself in San Fran, developing his technique and studio. Like Jeremy, he moved to Chicago in 2004, again due to work. It was there that he met up with Jeremy at a Noisia show and the two forged a strong friendship and musical partnership from there. Known for spinning the hardest and most cutting-edge neurofunk around, Section 9 seeks to create the soundscape of the future through use of advanced performance technologies like a modified virtual reality interface glove designed to work with their music, amongst a blend of other hardware & software. Blurring the line between man and machine both musically and physically through performance, Section 9 brings a stack of dubs so large that they rarely play the same tune out twice. Look for future releases alongside Combat Records owner M1D1 and others. Contact : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |
