Everyone respects an artist who shows true dedication to his craft. Psidream, a.k.a. Jeff Malcolm, is one such individual. A true drum & bass aficionado, Psidream has immersed himself in the genre, and through tireless effort is fast emerging as one of drum and bass' leading, and most prolific, producers. A producer first and foremost, Psidream began creating tracks before he even took to DJ'ing. With a background consisting of eight years of training in both classical and jazz piano, he's well schooled in the nature of music as fine art. This fact is evident in both his track selection during mix sets and his talent for constructing his own tunes. Defining Psidream's style isn't exactly easy. Like any worthwhile producer, he hasn't limited himself to one particular sound; his broad spectrum of releases range from airy dreamscapes to menacing tracks exuding psychic malevolence. What listeners can count on is his love of drum & bass and attention to detail making each production rock solid. Psidream's music has been supported by many of the world's top drum & bass DJ's, including Andy C, Bailey, Ed Rush, Dieselboy, DJ Zinc, L Double, Pendulum, and Calyx, as well as licensed to many CD's mixed by DJ Dara, Evol Intent, Manifest, Digital, Paul Reset, and more. While his focus has always been primarily as a solo artist, Psidream has also has the pleasure of collaborating with many other talented producers, including Evol Intent, Mayhem, Pacific, Infiltrata, Gabriel, John Rolodex, Resound, Mechwarrior, MC Mecha, and Marvel. Psidream started out releasing with Scottish label Nerve Recordings, and then quickly had four tracks snatched up by leading U.S. label Breakbeat Science. Recently, Psidream has produced various releases for legendary UK label Renegade Hardware and its sub-label Barcode, most notably, "Zero Hour", "Stomping Ground", and "In Effect", a collaboration with Pacific that was featured on Barcode's debut LP "Us Against The World". The latter half of 2005 has seen much success for this rising Canadian producer. Two more collaborations with Pacific have emerged in the form of a 12" on Ryme Tyme's highly respected 1210 Recordings. Other highlights include recent "Unsung", a collaboration with Shadow Law Recordings owner Mayhem, which was recently released on Optiv's Red Light imprint, a well-rinsed remix of "808" by oS for Cymbalism Recordings, "Atomsmash" featuring the vocal talents of MC Mecha (of Sinthetix fame) which appeared on vinyl via Concord Dawn's Uprising Recordings as well as on a Knowledge mix CD by Digital in August 2004. One of the most notable releases as of late is a remix of "Close To You" by American breakbeat outfit Hidden Forces, which was released in November 2005 on Epidemic Recordings, a new MP3 label from Psidream and Oddmud (collectively known in the breakbeat world as Influenza). Aside from many critically acclaimed releases over the past months, Psidream's conquest has only begun. He has been busy in the studio finishing some big remixes, including his rework of "Lost Contact" by hot up-and-comers Alliance for Incite Recordings, a drum & bass remix of "Audio Damage" by well-established breakbeat producer Future Funk Squad, and most notably his remix of 1998's classic techstep track "Trauma", originally produced by Dom & Roland, slated for a mid-2006 release on Renegade Hardware. Apart from this recent slew of remixes, Psidream is also set to appear with two tracks on the next Shadow Law single, with "Faceless Witness" (his second collaboration with vocalist Mecha) and "Ready To Roll". Also expect other forthcoming releases on labels such as Red Light, Freak, Cymbalism, Habit, Timewave Audio, and more. If you're into the deeper side of things, keep an eye on his alter-ego Sentient, which will be exploring the less-dancefloor-oriented aspects of drum & bass. Outside of the studio, Psidream continues to make his mark as one of North America's fastest up-and-coming DJ's. Aside from headlining slots, He has consistently shared the stage with various top drum & bass DJ's, including Fresh, Bad Company, Dom & Roland, Hive, Evol Intent, Marcus Intalex, Concord Dawn, AK1200, DJ Teebee, Storm, as well as top acts from other genres such as Paul Oakenfold, Coolio, Crystal Method, Mr. Wiggles, and more. While drum & bass is his main focus, you can also find Psidream's music in many other places. His breakbeat side-project Influenza has proven to be a success, and they are continually gaining worldwide recognition for their brand of new skool funk. 2005 saw the launch of their MP3 label Epidemic Recordings, which will feature original music by popular breakbeat producers such as Transformer Man, Amb, and more. Influenza's most notable accolade to date is being the first Canadian act to perform at the annual Breakspoll event at Fabric in London. Psidream's music has also appeared in television commercials, live dance performances, laser light shows, and he will soon be venturing deeper into producing hip hop, downtempo, dub, and ambient. five bucks all ages 21 to drink more info at: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |
