2 night 2 floor event featuring the best of Detroit Techno and House Music.
Evening Performances for the "Roots of Techno" conference. All performers are now confirmed for the following nights Friday 10/20/06: Terrence Parker (Detroit) Studio!K7, Real Right [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Detroit has been credited as one of the Soul Music capitals of the world, spawning legendary artists like The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross just to name a few. Within the past decade Detroit's Underground Music Movement has brought rise to new artists such as Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson and a host of others. But unlike the aforesaid names, Terrence Parker has established himself as a producer, remixer and DJ of the classic sound of House Music, and is known as a pioneer of the Inspirational / Gospel House movement! As of January 2006, Terrence Parker has performed as a DJ in more than 100 cities throughout the world. Since 1988, he has released more than 100 recordings, and had top 20 hits with his songs "Love's Got Me High", "The Question" and albums like "Detroit After Dark" in the U.K., The Netherlands, Germany, and France. As one of the headliners for the 2004 Detroit Movement Festival (May 2004), TP (along with his friend & Detroit legend DJ Mo Reese) performed a stunning Tagteam DJ set on 4 turntables with 2 live vocalists for a crowd of over 100,000 people. As part of the Detroit Historical Museum's History of Techno International Exhibit, TP's collective musical works and pioneering efforts have been recognized as a valuable contribution to Detroit's music history, as well as the International History Dance Music. This exhibit is currently touring museums throughout the United States. In 2002, TP did retire from Djing for approximately 1 year in order to make certain that his career in music was in accord with his spiritual direction. But now he is back, Djing and making positive music for all of the world to enjoy. TP's incredible DJing talents can be heard regularly on WJLB FM98's "Club Insomnia" (Detroit's No .. 1 Urban Radio Station). Furthermore, TP produces several DJ mix shows (including The Inspirational House Mix Show), which can be heard on FM, Internet, and Satellite/Digital Radio stations in the UK, BRAZIL, SWITZERLAND, GREECE, GERMANY, FRANCE, TURKEY, NORWAY, and JAPAN. Terrences most recent remix projects are currently topping charts and driving dancefloors all over the world. As of November 2005, some of his most recent remix projects include such popular artists as Chris Brown, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Shaun Escoffery , Ce Ce Winans, Dr. Charles Hayes & The Cosmopolitan Church Of Prayer Choir, Genuwine, Omarion, and Amerie. Furthermore, TP has also been busy working on his own projects with artists Coco Street and Darnell Kendricks. These artists and more are featured on TPs new Inspirational House Music label called TPMT Music, established with long time friend and fellow DJ Maurice Turner (aka DJ Mo Reese). Terrence Parker is definitely still in the game, and better than ever. Some people call TP the "Telephone Man" because he uses an actual telephone as headphones. We call him the "Telephone Man" because he has answered the CALL to bring us music to feed our souls! Dj Minx (Detroit) M nus, Re: Launch / Hit Girl! He is widely credited as the originator of techno music, sometimes known as Detroit Techno since Atkins and techno co-creators Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Atkins has cited the radio show of Charles "Electrifyin' Mojo" Johnson as a musical influence. Electrifyin' Mojo, a Detroit DJ, played an eclectic mix of music including Kraftwerk, Parliament and Prince. Atkins and friend Derrick May created mix tracks for Electrifying Mojo to broadcast, then began to create original music. At Washtenaw Community College, Atkins met Rick Davis, with whom he recorded under the name Cybotron. Atkins coined the term techno to describe their music, taking as one inspiration the works of futurist and author Alvin Toffler, from whom he borrowed the terms "cybotron" and "metroplex". Atkins has used the term techno to describe earlier bands that made heavy use of synthesizers such as Kraftwerk, although many people would consider Kraftwerk's music and Juan's early music in Cybotron as Electro. Techno is considered today as a specific genre. Atkins began recording as Model 500 in 1985 with tracks such as "No UFO's", "Night drive", "Future" and "Clear". He continues to produce his own and other musicians' records under the Metroplex Records label.
