Trance was around, but VERY minor in comparison. It used to be a way slower BPM, tracks like "Atom Bomb" were classic but often intertwined into house sets, once it sped up and went more "euro" was it's death imho.

The good old days, when u didn't know a location till the day of(or even the map-point), when "i need your lovin'" blared thru the speakers and everyone was huggin' it up, vicks vapo-rub, parties at Twilo(freedom was fun), when astro-earl, michael alig, richie rich and the like would show up looking like freaks(and wearing moto-x gear at 3am on drugs)

MAN THE GOOD OLD DAYS
Flyers were so big that i used them as wallpaper in my college dorm. They would have these descriptions under each headliner that made each one seem like the best thing since slicest bread, and 95% of the time, they were right.

Nostrum live sets were great
Skylab 2000 live

Train ride home from parties at 6AM were always weird yet tranquil

Neverending discussions about b-boys/girls at parties

Looking at the stranger next to you, sharing a smile, acknowledging how great the music is with a couple of timely nods in sync with the beats, continuing to dance with everything you got

Walking from corner to corner of a party, looking for your friends for an hour but finding nothing but kids sitting down spaced out in their own little world, as you begin comtemplating just how many pills you swallowed tonight

Driving around looking for a party, seeing someone in parachute pants walking down the road and knowing right then that you're not too far away

Long lines around the block waiting to get into a party 'cause they decided to oversell as usual

Seems like a lot of the new music coming out today isn't anywhere near ground-breaking as it was in the late 90s. But it seems like that's the trend with a lot of things aside from music. The dozens of sitcom remakes, movie remakes, cover songs, revitalized fashion styles and so forth are what seems to be the driving force behind making a buck today, attempting to appeal to an older generation's childhood while bringing in modern elements for today's generation.

The scene isn't what it used to be. That much is obvious. A decade ago, the scene wasn't what it used to be 5 years before that. And in another decade, the scene isn't going to be what it is today. But it seems like the principle elements still get passed along and that's what keeps the scene alive.

Reminiscing about the "good old days" and sharing those memories with newcomers is what keeps the scene going. Everyone from the enthusiasts to the purists to the haters to the neo-aficionado existential know-nothing-know-it-alls to the generalizing media contribute to the development and maintenance of this scene. There's nothing like seeing vid clips of a party on the 10 o'clock news at the Birch Hill Manor in NJ getting busted 'cause of kids overdosing on x. Camera crews filming and depicting ravers dancing in their over-sized pants and wearing colorful, edible candy jewelry. And it's like, "wow, I almost went to that party.. I coulda been on TV!"

I stopped going to parties years ago but I still love the music. I'll admit that it used to be about the drugs for me, but after a while, the drugs got boring and the music did not. The same discussions about how the scene is progressing/regressing were debated a decade ago like they are today. The same replies of "if you hate it, do something about it" existed then, too. Life is constantly changing and cyclic with a slight twist of evolution. Just like anything else, things will never be as they once were.

And yet somehow... Some things will never change. People expressing themselves through what they wear (glitter is a product of the devil). Fake drugs ("that pill has a 'M' carved in it.. it has to be real!"). The various interpretations of PLUR and what it personally means to you, no matter how philosophical or simplistic it may be. And forum threads like this one.

MAn I am glad to see more and more people comming on here recognizing how the shit was and is not now. Its not the same even the lines. That was an adventure getting fucked up, dodging security running when they saw the dip flame, getting taken to the basement of the Limelight after I threw my dip from the balcony. Man it was just an adventure every week. Now you just walk up,in and its you and a few people in an empty room with a few retards dancing people drinking and wonders. Its not a cycle these promoters know dick thats why. I cant really stand how shit turned out and people should be ashamed. I will never forget how shit was and all our little adventures but its way too far off from how it was. I know I know things change but from Massive parties to nobody? Thats pathatic and not acceptable to me. If I was a promoter I would really do something about it.

You are not a promoter so shut the fuck up first off. Secondly the poster before you was agreeing on what everyone in this thread will agree with the amount of people going out and some of the shit surrounding the party is different but at the heart of it is still the music and the kids having fun. Thirdly asshat you prolly dont know but there is a party the night before thanx giving at the cpac center in BK. Virgin venue for raves with a 2000+ capacity with Bambam, Commander tom, Venom, Feelgood, Bassbin twins, AK 1200, odi, total science, Db, faust and shortee, Micro and a host of others. You gonna sit here and tell me this is shit when it has a bunch of djs that have been brought up time and again in this thread.
On top of which you talk all of this shit because you are a fucking sheep. You dont throw parties, you dont go out, you dont help in any way yet you sit here and complain and bitch whine and moan. What the fuck is the point. You think anyone on this board gives a fuck what you have to say. There are mad crews throwing parties that were throwing parties before you were here and are still throwing parties now so what does that say about you analysis. It says that you are out of touch and talking out of your ass.
No one has said parties werent better, more of an adventure, and had more people at them. But then again we were all younger and most of us were doing a bunch of drugs which will have a huge impact on your perception of what is good and what is bad. Before you start talking shit maybe you should have a basis for comparison. Going to one party at the hook which is closed for good, is not a basis for comparison. Get back in touch with the real ravers who are still here and then get back to me. Or throw a party and see how horribly you fail. Because you will fail.

If you look solely on this shit website then yes there is nothing going on on NYE. And we dont want X raver at our parties anyways. He would end up having fun and no one wants that.
BUt he forgot about the MOBY slick rick frankie bones party and the other one going on in Brooklyn. But yeah nothing going on on NYE. DUMB FUCK YOU ARE> Get in the know and then start posting the truth as opposed to your perceptions which are beyond false.
Go back to your k hole.

i gotta say i agree with you! i've been raving since 89 here in socal. the scene has changed so much since then. i've found about every 7 years the scene changes dramatically. remember when the kandy kids were strong and proud with plur and fun? then they went all goth and cigarette pants! it been really neat to see the changes and how many new people have joined the fun. i think the only time i got a little freaked was when the bad-vibe crews came and invaded some major events in socal. they really messed with people in a bad way and i think it put some darkness into it. but maybe this boy if one of them too....are you x-raver? do you wear dark kandy? i hope you keep your good experiences and the love you felt in your heart and bring it with you to share with the younger set. PLUR baby!!! lmao

euro Re: You All Ruined Raves

i'll cut the guy sum slack i mean like he sed the ny rave scene used to be huge in his day and shit and and now he says a big party is 200 ppl?!?! that fucking SUCKS! i'm from the LA socal rave scene and i love how parties here have sum damn good dj's are like at least like 3000+ ppl and forget about massives! its fucking great.. i sympathize for x-raver. if the rave scene here were reduced to how he explains it to be in NY (200 ppl max, shitty venues) then i would be really sad. so-cal ravers should be VERY grateful
