![]() Holy fucking shit... I've been checking up on this (mostly) pointless rant for years now, being mostly focused on my local Philadelphia, Pennsylvania scene, and just HAD to finally post my comment on THE MOST POPULAR POST ON RAVELINKS: This topic -- Specifically, X-Raver's incoherent ranting -- is absolutely, undoubtedly, HILARIOUS!!! As this post has FAR more replies and pages than ANY other, I figured it was time for my post-college-graduating self to chime in on the discussion... First of all, while I was too young to participate in the "old school" raves of the very early 1990's, I have been obsessed with electronic music in all of its genres and forms since 1992 -- my first encounter w/ electronic muysic being a regional major oldskool rave DJ spinning tunes on a local college radio station (DJ Trace & Miko, WMUH Allentown, PA, circa 1992-4). While I admit I am not an oldskool raver, once I heard the electronic sound, I knew it was the future, and compulsively tried to amass the largest collection of all the related genres possible. I started to go to local raves outside of Philly in 1998-99 (when I was 15), and the vibe & music was absolutely wicked and PLUR-filled... While I do believe that since then the positive PLUR vibes have significantly decreased -- as well as the attendance and hyped-up nature of the attendees (admittedly possibly due to a lack of good *ENHANCERS*, if you know what I mean [while I never have engaged in any illegal activity, of course]), I find this not to be due to the cause of any one or a series of promoters, but rather, as Prophet has explained, to a lack of GREAT MUSIC THAT WILL BLOW PEOPLE'S MINDS and CAUSE THEM TO NEED TO COME BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN!!! For those who had NOT experienced the oldskool electronic rave sound (e.g., HC jungle circa 1992-4 from the UK d&b heads still currently rocking it), WTF happened to all the great Mid-skool (~1997-2001) electronic artists (e.g., Prodigy, Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Underworld, etc)?? I believe that cuz of these musical geniuses just mentioned, and their subsequent disappearance from the EDM scene, that the "rave scene" & its artists have lost out on hundreds of thousands of dollars of possible revenue if marketed properly... In a few years, I hope to start a new company to fix all of the above problems... Watch this and the internet space for just such a company. P L U R. You are right about the music and nobodys mind being blown away by it. But the music will come once the venue is there. No mind blowing music is here because who the fuck wants to play at the hook when they could be in Germany or Amsterday at a rave with 2000 people and weed smoking and a real vibe. It was like that here too and then there was music. Bring back the venue and the music will come. not bring music and then the venue. Promoters dont know dick around here.

Dude thats what happened to the rave scene in Melbourne Australia. A friend told me that back in the day of the rave scene when it was all underground... Everyone knew each other and the drugs and all were clean... Same shit happens everywhere he is out of the scene now... but he still loves the music..I'm a new raver I'll admit that but your right dude. The scene was better and stronger back in the day... I don't know what you're talking about the gay homo clothes people wear.. I love my phatts haha

Its good to see that people do know whats up. The clothes comment is about how gay people dress now. Its like a competition whos the gayist. I know I know people always dressed in drag and kandy. But now its the "thing to do" people who dressed like that back in the day were real and minded their own business. Now people dress like fags just to be cool and they think you want to talk with them. When you dont. Not that ravers dress like fags in general I used to wear the big ass pants and shit and whatever but I dont wear makeup and get in people I dont knows face to try and have a conversation with them.

No its not like that at all. Its a bunch of little shits and no old school kids. Totally right every week was like a fuckin reunion seeing the same great people from diffrent places at a huge huge event. Now??? there are no huge events (hook, exit dont count) and the people are newbies. Yeah, I am sure some of these teeny boppers know each other but its not like there are groups of like 50-100 people who all know each other takin bumps or smokin blunts. Its over and dead here in NYC. You can goto Amsterdam and still see real raves.

pathetic, but at least we know what you're after in a party. i'm sure there's a local crackhouse in your parents neighbourhood that you can walk to and share in the "vibe". PS, u don't realize that many of the parties in Amsterdam are at clubs, and aren't as large as the youtube videos make them look. |

hahaha DJ Profit= new best friend.
IDK why you constantly dump on the Hook X, I didn't think it was that bad seriously. But I have a group of 50+ friends that go to one party all the time that I hang with...So idk about NYC but I love me some Philly. And I don't mean the parties at the clubs either. I'm not a big fan of them. But The Hook really wasn't that bad. |

2 things. Who said anything about youtube???? I've been to Amsterdam raves and Belgium raves about 5-8 of them. Also had a good friend who lived there over a year and I stayed more than a month so I know how they are. I guess I have to explain again. You walk in theres like 1000+ people. You get searched you slap your fat bag of weed on the table and walk the fuck in with it. Thats benifit #2(the people was 1). Then you walk in (every fucking place) and its a huge places with more then 1 room. People are dancing (weird dancing but they are) nobody said ravers should sit around in circles and do drugs all the time but they do here and there. Then the music fucking hard ass shit from set 1 to set 10 and I mean hard whatever and good shit actually the best shit. Then the drinks. So much better system than here. Check this. You go 1st thing and buy a bunch of tokens for a set price (by the way the more you buy the cheaper they are) long but fast line. Then when you go get drinks theres no $$ no change just tokens. fucking drinks in light speed to the whole place. Sooo much better. And the Hook who said I had a bad experience there? I just always say its a sad pathetic rave spot and anyone who thinks its a great spot is a 17 year old newbie raver who knows dick. You cant throw a great rave in that place the venue wont allow it. I dont care who you put in that place your not fitting enough people. You have to have people to have a rave dickheads. 50 heads you know or dont is not a rave. Thats a gathering at a resturant, thats lunch in a school, thats sports that is not a massive musical event. You need mads heads before you can have a bumping rave. People standing around with 20 out of 200 dancing is just nothing. its kids with no money and nothing better to do. Again all I ask is 2 raves per year 1 in the summer 1 over winter break. So far there was not 1 over the summer lets see the winter.
