If anybody out there was going to raves in nyc in the mid 90's I need your help. I was talking to a friend about a DJ who used to perform at almost every hardcore party we went to who used to start his set with a piece about someones kid dying of an overdose. I believe he passed away in the mid to late 90's and I can't remember his name. If anybody has any idea what I'm talking about please help.

You might be thinking of Nicky Fingers. Lenny Dee and Nicky were the creators of Industrial Strength records. Nicky died in the mid to late '90s in a Burger King bathroom. He was a legend and godfather of the hardcore scene. RIP Nicky.

Ahh Lenny Dee....crap, I had some really old school mixed tapes of his and I lost em'. I was into his stuff for a good 2-3 years before Tron and Delta-9 took over the hardcore business. Yah, Nicky, big loss but, always a reason for everything....

. Delta 9 is a solid hardcore dj, but my money's on Ron D. Core here on the West Coast. He's done so much to shape our American Hardcore scene it's not even funny. Lenny Dee on the other hand has had his fingers in many different pies and has changed the face of house, techno, and hardcore for all of us. Sometimes I think about what it would have been like if Nicky were still alive today, where would our hardcore scene be? Let's pull out the 'What If....' machine. |

Yes!!! That is exactly who i was talking about!!! For some reason I kept thinking of Frankie Knuckles which I knew was the wrong person. Not that he was too shabby either.
The absolutely last rave I ever went to is when I found out that Nicky died....I was getting a little old and was on my way out already anyway. But he was just about the only reason I was sticking around...I was absolutely amazed every time I heard him. |

That song you were talking about that he started his sets off with, about someone's son dying cuz of an overdose is an oldskool hardcore rave classic:
Mr Kirk -- "Mr Kirk's Nightmare." Perhaps I'll dig it out, or something like it, for my radio show tonight...
