That crap they spew on teevee about how New York is "the city that never sleeps" is total bullshit. Mebbe it was true before Guiliani turned the city into disneyland-for-bankers, but it's sure not true today. Probably the culprit here is the death of New Jack City's warehouse scene -- it fell victim to loft conversions. My buddy Mike, who's a bit of a fossil by the standards of this board, tells the story of him & his 6 housemates living together in the entire top floor of a huge warehouse back in the 90s.. and being forced out when the landlord decided to turn that building into lofts (in this case, the infamous McKibbin 'Dorms'). For those of you not quite up on terminology, a 'warehouse' is a big ex-industrial building w/ cavernous open spaces inside. Sometimes a bunch (typically 5-10) of crazy mofos (read: excellent folks) move in and actually inhabit such places, propping up flimsy walls here & there for some half-semblance of bedrooms; bathroom & kitchen facilities at such places tend to be... primitive. Other times, ya just find an empty one and secure, ahem, not-formally-authorized access, & throw a party. (People stiil do both of these things out in Oakland, doubtless among other places.) In contrast, a 'loft' is what happens when the greedy-ass landlord realizes his cavernous industrial building can yield waaaay more rent if he builds a ton of walls inside it, sectioning it off into cramped, hateful little rabbit warrens. These are then flogged off onto an eager market of hipster douchebags, who are like, " , this lawft is like sooo fucking kewl! -- and look, marble bathrooms!!" I've seen a number of lofts in New Jack that measured like 15'w x 12'd x 20'h. Made me wanna vomit every time. And yeah, you sheeple who are gonna be like, "duuuuuude, just go to the skanky-ass club and daaaance, there's nothing wrong w/ the club vibe". Well dude, you get an E for effort -- who can be against dancing? -- but the venue & the scene still get an F for fucking-awful. Last edited by captain_oblivious; 14.6.2008 at 9:30 am.. PLUR? yeah, it's sad most people these days don't know what real raving is like. I think I'd die if the scene disappeared here. Although....many parties are "fully Permitted" with condos and shopping malls being built everywhere it's hard to find a place with nothing around it so it won't get popped. But seriously...you can't get mad at people who don't really know what it's all about. Clubs are cool...it is about the music, but the culture has gone down bleh. I wouldn't mind going to a club, I just want to dance. Even though....it'd be cheating. Oh well....And honestly if you don't know someone already in the scene and how it works and when they start. Don't go. Do your research and find out on your own because personally, I hate when people come in and don't know what the fuck it's about and just do a bunch of drugs and dance without knowing anything about plur or how the culture works. If you want to start, find someone that already knows what's up.

Anyone who used to goto raves and is over 20 years old agrees wiht me. There is noone who thinks the rave scene in NY is boomin. This shit is a joke and if you disagree with me you have never seen a rave.
