![]() Direct Drive Presents THURSDAY, MAY 17th 2007 One night only! Planet of the Drums features 3 of America's Top DJ's along with Direct Drive's man with the plan. Get ready as they all throw down at the New and Improved Sullivan Room which has a killer sound system and twice as much space to get your groove on. Get ready for this!!! Dieselboy ![]() It has been a long road to the top for drum n bass DJ/Producer maverick Dieselboy. After years spent pushing the U.S. drum n bass scene forward and making a name for himself, its easy to imagine that Dieselboy would want to step back and bask in his well earned success. But this is not the case because for Dieselboy, it is the continual test that is the inspiration. Seeking out and approaching challenges head on, Dieselboy has taken it upon himself to tear down the walls that isolate music genres as well as expand the worldwide acceptance of drum n bass as a whole and American-produced dnb in particular. A part of the stateside electronic movement from the very beginning, Dieselboy is hailed as one of the Founding Fathers of American drum n bass. His passion for the music and his rigorous touring and production schedules have earned him a slot in that upper pantheon of DJs able to perform to enthusiastic audiences the world over. From Hong Kong to Helsinki to Philadelphia, the UKs Knowledge Magazine declares, Dieselboy has managed to build a fan base that rivals that of any rock star. Dieselboy has also been experimenting with fusing drum n bass with rock and hip-hop. He has remixed Orgy and Styles of Beyond, and has performed at shows with artists such as P.O.D., Orgy, and System of a Down. He has also toured alongside David Bowie, Moby, Busta Rhymes and Blue Man Group at 2002s Area:2 Festival, and played the main stage at 2003s Cyberfest featuring Kraftwerk, Pharaoh Monch, Planet B and Kevens. For his remix of Styles of Beyonds Subculture, featured in the Playstation 2 game Amplitude, he brought in a live band to flesh out the programmed elements with live bass, drums, guitars and keyboards. It was an experiment for me, but I found jungle, rock, and hip-hop to flow together very well, Dieselboy says. His next project: producing drum n bass tunes with metal influences for a musical fusion that might just be the next wave in the world of dnb and beyond. AK1200 ![]() Two years in the making, SHOOTTOKILL marks the debut studio album from AK1200. I felt that I have gone practically as far as one can go as a DJ. I have always been interested in production, and thought it was the right time for an artist album- it was the next logical step for me. I have so many influences musically that you cant really express as just a DJ, and the songs on the album reflect who I am creatively without the limits of what I have to play as a DJ, states AK. Not wanting to simply make an album reflecting whatever the current sound of the moment is in drum and bass, AK chose to make an album that embodies the history of the sound which is, in fact, his own history. SHOOTTOKILL moves with ease through the many styles of this very diverse form of music, from the opening modern ragga track Juniors Tune featuring legendary reggae vocalist Junior Reid of Black Uhuru to the MASSVIE vocal stormer Fake feat. Terra Deva (the albums lead single), to the chill dnb sounds of Deja Nu. Another strong thread throughout the album is the sound of Florida. All the songs on SHOOTTOKILL are anchored with a sonic quality and songwriting level that, no matter what the country of origin and no matter what genre classification, is impressive. The future for AK1200 is becoming a reality rather quickly. Plans for his own artist imprint via Lakeshore - :..run recordings are being solidified now, and POTD members AK, Dieselboy, Dara and newly inducted MC J-Messinian have already planned on a studio collaboration before the years end. The incessant touring will of course continue as POTD is steadily proving that they are as much of a draw as any top name superstar DJ. As drum and bass and electronic music as a whole both expands and matures, AK1200 plans to be there leading the charge for the breakbeat massive at every step of the way. Nuff respect. DARA ![]() A member of the infamous Planet of the Drums crew alongside fellow drum n bass pioneers AK1200, Dieselboy, & J Messinian , this Irish transplant has been a dominant figure in the U.S. drum n bass scene since his arrival here in 1994. His discography includes 2 critically acclaimed full length artist albums, 8 DJ mix CDs, as well as numerous singles and remixes for artists such as Freq Nasty, Afrika Bambaata and Keoki. Dara co-founded the nation's first & largest drum n bass record store, Breakbeat Science , in NYC which doubles as his own imprint, Breakbeat Science Recordings. He has been featured in countless magazine articles and interviews both in the US and worldwide. He previously hosted one of the internet's most popular drum n bass broadcasts, Velocity, where he regularly interviewed leading drum n bass artists such as Jonny L, Kemistry & Storm, Trace, Ed Rush, Optical, Hype, Andy C, Zinc, and many others. Dara's long standing relationships with the world's drum n bass elite gives him access to an astounding amount of new and unreleased material. His brilliant recording endeavors along with his incessant touring markey by consistently awe-inspiring DJ sets have made him one of the most recognized and well respected DJs in the country. MC MESSINIAN Born in Los Angeles, California, J-Messinian bounced around the country nomad-like, eventually ending up in Philadelphia in the late 90's. As a child growing up, James developed a love for MC'ing: head-nodding to HipHop in oversized headphones and engaging in freestyle 'ciphers' with other "staircase artists". His formative musical roots ranged from Soul, to Hip Hop, to Latin percussion and Dancehall, to his mother Helena's emotional piano and guitar sessions. In the early nineties, James began frequenting parties, from b-boy summits to raves with breaks and tribal house. As his journey into the underground progressed, he eventually fell in love with the raw snares and basslines of Drum and Bass music. Messinian's enthralling stage presence and dope-ass rhymes speak to the fervid Drum and bass audience from the stage and beyond. James says it best himself: "Much love to all of my friends and family for their endless support and positive influence. Performing my art form and poetry in front of crowds has been a dream of mine since the age of 9. All of you have helped in making this dream become a reality. Endless respects." DJ SEOUL ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) A major force in the Stateside Drum and Bass scene, New York City-based DJ Seoul made his debut behind the decks back in 1993. After several years of DJing and party promotions at underground scene nationwide, sensing the need for a weekend Drum and Bass night, Seoul began a weekly Saturday night event called Direct Drive in 1998. Direct Drive has received international acclaim as the party which consistently hosts the finest in US and UK talent and Seoul is now widely recognized as one of the top Drum and Bass promoters and DJs on the East Coast. Expanding on the success of the Direct Drive party, Seoul formed an event production and promotion company with the same name. Currently, Seoul is focusing his energy on producing tracks in his recording studio as well as overseeing the launch of a record label.
