This man is probably one of the most inspiring figures, at least to myself, throughout, and even outside the genre. His skills as a drummer are of high calibre, putting him up there at the top of the drummer food chain. The complexities of his patterns aren't just impressive in themselves but also in the fact that he can execute them precisely every single time, with all the dynamics and intricacies that he wishes to lay upon them. His technical skill as a drummer suggest that he's a seasoned one - you can tell that he has spent (and continues to do so) countless hours, days, months practicing and working his ass off. Now, his performance probably wouldn't be anywhere near where it is right now had he not had the gift of percussive composition - I don't know if that term exists or not, but honestly I can't think of anything better to describe it - the natural ability to keep beat, layering quarters, sixteens, thirty-seconds and sixty-fours, and emerging with a beat structure that in itself resembles little of its constituents, but sounds just on spot... and you can totally tell that this shit is running through his head non-stop, even when he's not playing drums - I bet he can probably hear the whole thing as if it was being performed right there and then. Having the technical skill and the natural composition & improvisation abilities makes him more than just a performer or a producer - a prodigy, a beat revolutionary, a drumkit renegade. He has truly mastered the interfaces of expression, taking what's in his head/mind/body and laying it out with his hands via his in-fucking-sane drum kit. But he's not just a drumming hooligan - he is, to borrow a label from someone elese's review of his shows, a fucking cyborg. He's got MIDI triggers on most of the acoustic drums in his kit, he's got a sampler, effects processor, a multi-trigger pad, a iBook with Ableton and Traktor and God only knows what else... and he's got a grasp on everything at the same time. That isn't human. But he is. Sick, sick fuck. Respect to one of the most inspiring people, in my mind, on the musical sphere. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ / Last edited by t-boy : Today at 12:26 AM. / And more youtube videos are coming out: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |
