marcel dettmann
berlin . ostgut ton, mdr, cocoon, rekids,
hard wax, berghain
Marcel Dettmann is one of the supporting pillars of the Berghain
sound: Marcel Dettmann is one of the supporting pillars of the
Berghain sound: Powerful, sexy and knowing in the right sense. One
could also say he knows his edutainment. Since 1999 Marcel is and has
been a steady fixture at both the old OstGut and the new Berghain. The
classic sounds of Chicago and Detroit have had a huge influence on
him, but Marcel also says that "the music and the sets have to work,
should have a soul and be ignorant of boundaries. I re-invent my dj
philosophy for every new set, location and night. Generally, it is
very important to me to play as varied as possible sets fusing classic
tracks with the contemporary ones."

Besides his dj activities, Marcel also works at Berlin's highly
influential record store Hard Wax. The store's excellent musical
portfolio provides Dettmann with a constant inspiration for his
upcoming projects. "Dawning/Dead Man Watches The Clock" on our label
Ostgut Ton is his first ever released record, a collaboration with
another Berghain resident, Ben Klock. It has gotten an excellent
feedback and managed to chart Groove Magazine's Top50 at number 2.
"Music always works in a certain context at a certain time, or it
doesn't. There still are a lot of interesting, very varied artists and
labels releasing loads of good stuff, be it classic or experimental."

plexus
bklyn . m_nus
Mike Schroff (aka plexus) is a respected fixture in the underground
community of minimal techno and house in New York City. His
distinctive brand of Cologne and dub inflected minimalism has made him
an in-demand DJ on a national and international level, with notable
gigs throughout New York City, Detroit, Germany, and the Dominican
Republic.

Upon moving to New York City in 1996, plexus helped shape the sound of
intelligent minimal dance music on the East Coast as a veteran of two
of NYC's most esteemed record shops, Temple Records and Satellite
Records.

Plexus combines superb skills with a deeper understanding of the
music. His distinctive mix of minimal house and techno has graced
opening sets for Teknotika label boss/producer Gary Martin at the
Detroit Electronic Music Festival (2001), Jeff Mills at Arc (2003),
Air Liquide and Coldcut at the Electro Bunker Cologne event (1999),
and Richie Hawtin (2002); opening and closing sets for Swayzak at Arc
(2003); sets at the Micromini and penetr8.net parties (2003-2004), a
weekly residency at Dark Wave BBQ/Cash Checking with Heartthrob (2005)
and a coveted opening slot for Pantytec (2006).

In December 2004, Mike and Troy Pierce released Slacknoise vs. Plexus,
Ana Tak EP on Minus. The release, which made the Top 50 in Groove
Magazine ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]), was described as "Hauntingly moody from
measure one, this edgy yet climatic groove will still keep floors
jumpin' at 5AM" by Praxis in xlr8r Magazine.

insideout
bklyn . clink
Grant Aaron, aka Insideout, is co-owner of and recording artist on
Clink Recordings. Grant began DJing in 1997, mainly influenced by the
striped down minimal sounds of Daniel Bell, Plastikman and Mike Ink.
It didn't take long for those influences to persuade him to move from
behind the decks to the studio. His first original sounds came in the
form of Ambient and Experimental with a full length album entitled
Embrace. This was released on his co-created multimedia net label,
Lifeform Project, which he started with several producers from his
hometown of Atlanta, but that was just the beginning.

With the International response and success of the net label, Grant
realized his personal longing to progress his musical ideas even
further. He relocated to Brooklyn, New York, and teamed up with close
friend, DJ and producer, Camea. Clink Recordings was born in the Fall
of 2005. They have since released a catalogue of very successful solo
and collaborative EP's from NY artists Afternoon Coffee Boys, Tim
Xavier, Tony Rohr, Camea, Insideout, Ambivalent and Elon. His
collaborative debut with Camea, Nothing Shocking/Azimuth (Clink 002),
was a hit and played by artists such as Richie Hawtin, Magda and Adam
Beyer. As a solo artist, Grant's production combines the influences of
modern minimal techno and the basic fundamentals of this genre:
intricate percussive programming, dark atmospherics and an
irresistible cavernous bounce.

In recent years, Grant has meticulously created a following and demand
for his deep, conceptually minimal DJ sets. He rotates regular gigs in
South America, North America and Europe, and is a New York after-hours
favorite. An avid music collector, Grant is consistent and explores
the new trends and sounds within this genre, and it is guaranteed he
will always have the latest and greatest ideas embedded within his
performances. His live & DJ shows are an array of influences and keep
the floor moving from start to finish.
