Try weed or xanax (sp?) Stress sucks, I agree, but for the love of music and dancing I think its worth it. I've never heard you spin but fuck all the naysayers. If you have a hard time beatmatching buy some cheap cd tables with bpm counters on it. They arent perfect but they are a gr8 guide. I personally am not totally satisfied with my beatmatching but I think the energy that you bring is more important. I hope to see you spin soon since I am new to the local rave scene.

I'm sick and tired of going out to parties and hearing DJs that can't mix for shit. It kills the vibe by clearing the dancefloor and prevents people from getting lost in the music because they're too busy getting trainwrecked out of their groove every 4 minutes. If you want to play out, that's great, but all of these trainwrecking noobs need to be patient and hone their skills before they get out there trying to be the entertainment for someone's night when you don't know what the fuck you're doing at all. |

I don't care who you are or what you spin, if you want to DJ you better be able to beatmatch through at least 30 minutes flawlessly. If someone can't do that, they have no business playing live. It's really not that hard, just spin a few records every night and by a few months it will seem like nothing. You can't just get up on the tables and hard cut between records all night, not caring about the beat, and then backpeddle with the "oh yeah that was just the energy I was bringing". That takes no skill at all, and it's quite annoying to hear gallops EVERY TRANSITION when you're on the dance floor. I'm all for bringing your own unique energy to a set, but I'm also a staunch believer that you have to learn how to play the turntables before you get up there and spin records. You wouldn't get up on stage with a live band and play guitar if you didn't even know how to play simple power chords, would you? DJs get no breaks from learning how to master their instrument... However, I think that idea of using BPM counters is pretty good. They're usually a bit off but they can at least tell you where you're going. The most accurate BPM counters I've seen are on digital solutions like Traktor or Serato Scratch. They can measure accuracy down to .1 BPM, and they have phase meters so you're not only aurally correct, you're correct down to the last frame in the waveform (if you want to seamlessly loop that is). Try not to look at the waveforms, though, because you'll forget how to beatmatch by ear! |

my entire set was flawless, no shoes in the dryer over here, every mix was beatmatched to the t, and i had a hell of a fun time with the whole set. maybe to be ripped apart on here from a few shitty shows i did was exactly what i needed to laugh at the stress instead of choke on it.
the star of the show was mr. white though. stunning performance from the 17 year old who deserved a better time slot. keep your eyes peeled for andy white...the kid is a trance master. |

you're only responsible for your own life, not a child. life changes then. no argument you have obstacles. everyone does. my kid and my real responsibilities come first, everything else is secondary.
