i have been getting too tired and have been getting sick from being worn out from trying to juggle gigs, producing music, and my real life responsibilities, including being a very hardworking single mother. playing has never been more than a hobby for me, i never wanted it to be my source of income, it was just something fun. but it has become too expensive and way too stressful in the way of travel, keeping up with equipment and just purchasing the music itself. if i play this gig, it will be my last, not because i don't love the music, but because it is entirely too much stress, for the actual gig itself, and all the drama that is always involved. i want to be involved in things that make me happy, and all gigs ever do anymore is stress me out and give me the runs. seriously.

i agree with you actually. and I really was not intending on playing a rave coming back to reading either. I agree too that I can't do it as well because I am one getting to old for it , and I am trying to contain the real life issues myself. I love my friends and the music and I think thats what draws us all back in. And besides who doesn't want to be the center of attention for 1 hour. I know I enjoyed it over the years.
I really hope you play more shows Lauren , maybe just on a less frequent basis like myself. ( your right too the stress part sucks ) But it's always something leading up to an event that had a small window of time to promote in the first place. ) In the end it usually comes together and we all create some sort of magic ) Cheers, ( best of luck in your en devours) A~ |

i've been a musician all my life. you have to love the music and the performance enough to get past the stress and hassles that come with playing gigs and especially PROMOTING gigs. if you feel the heat is too strong, then get out of the kitchen. perhaps this is not what you were meant to do.
here's my question, how the fuck did you manage to land gigs without being able to beatmatch? i'd like to get in contact with these people... |

See Reading, PA Rave June 21st thread. There lies the dirty details. (Maybe a waste of your time, but entertaining nonetheless)

So wait...you're saying you gonna stop playing music cause you poop from it?
Seriously Lauren, don't even get stressed over this stupid shit. Its friggin music for cryin' out loud. And if you do get to stressed out than don't do it...and just keep making your own music. Your stuff is good for being everything but trance. Does anyone know where I can get some really good bananna pancakes? |

dude. let me go to work for a little, balance my checkbook and see if i don't have enough dough for a mid day ihop visit for said pancakes. and for the record other dude, i can beatmatch , save for a few rough mixes here and there, and i'll freely admit, i blew an entire set in harrisburg recently, but it happens. i haven't been doing this very long and i have been lucky to have had opportunities to play out. yeah, i'm not the greatest dj, i just like music & like to press the buttons to make it, and like i said, i'm in the kitchen for the funk in the frying pan, not the lickin of the chicken. i have no problem putting down my spatula and sitting down for dinner.

well, i can imagine it's very hard to practice if you don't own your own set of tables...shit i stopped practicing for a week and my transitions started to falter a little bit.
there aren't any "easy roads" when you want to make or perform music though, you HAVE to be dedicated and you HAVE to work, it's that simple. also, a great way to deal with drama: ignore it. that's what i do and it's kept me sane through many crazy times. |

i've never claimed to be something special, and i've never done anything but play out and maintain my music myspace, and that alone gets bookings. people contact me, and i say yes or no, and 9 times out of 10, i'm playing for free or gas money and a couple of cheap drinks. so maybe that's why i get booked, i don't make too much of a fuss about any of it, and i play how i play. or maybe it's the novelty of a girl with a pretty face mixing records, but if you have a problem with that, bash on the promoters who book me based on what their scrotum is thinking, and not me for taking the booking. i'm sorry you don't like my track selection or mixing, but thanks for hanging around long enough to form an opinion on what i do. |
