”I would like to come over…what are you having for dinner?” asks the creepy character in Claude VonStroke’s first hit record, “Deep Throat.” After selling through 10 pressings in 2005, “Deep Throat” quickly put VonStroke on the map as an up and coming artist. The success of the single was followed up by “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?,” another international hit championed by Richie Hawtin who called it the “best track of 2006” in DJ magazine. Soon after that Claude released his full length debut album, “Beware of the Bird” to excellent reviews, further establishing him as an original talent in the world of underground dance music. Since then, Claude has done remixes for a very diverse group of top artists ranging all the way from the indy rock band, The Rapture (Vertigo,) to Jeff Samuel. (Pokerflat.)

Claude VonStroke is better known to locals, as Barclay Crenshaw, the owner of San Francisco’s quirky tech-funk label, dirtybird. The label consists of Crenshaw (VonStroke,) fellow producer Justin Martin, and a diverse assortment of top remixers from around the globe such as John Tejada, Audion, Diplo, 3 Channels, Dj Assault, and Kevin Saunderson.
The idea for dirtybird began in 2003 when Crenshaw was producing an intense 5 hour DVD about electronic music called, “Intellect.” The project was a labor of love, taking almost 2 years to complete and starring over 35 top producers and legendary DJs such as Derrick May, Swayzak, Derrick Carter, Deep Dish, Paul Van Dyk, Theo Parish, and many more. The main goal of the “Intellect” project was to make an informative dvd that could help DJs advance their careers in electronic music. The result was Crenshaw himself starting dirtybird records and a production career under the alias, Claude VonStroke.

Since 2003, the label has managed to solidify a reputation for releasing oddball classic techno and house tracks. The outdoor dirtybird parties in San Francisco’s scenic Golden Gate Park have also become a legendary summer destination point for both locals and international travelers.

In addition to production and label management, Claude VonStroke has an intense regimen for preparation and a great ear for song selection. His DJ sets are always inspiring and surprising. You will never hear a set of monotonous music because Claude always takes time to find the special cuts that make for a completely original experience that is not to be missed.

In 2007, Claude is hard at work on his second album. He also has plans to introduce a new deep techno sub-label this year called “Mothership.”

Currently residing in San Francisco, DJ Worthy grew up around Washington DC in the early days of Deep Dish, Scott Henry and the early American rave scene. In the late 90’s after moving to New York City, Worthy met his good friend Justin Martin and was exposed to the sounds of people like LTJ Bukem, Stacey Pullen, and Sasha. All of these influences made an impression on this young producer as he began to play records of all genres from hip hop to breaks to techno and drum n bass.

In 2001 Worthy set up his studio in San Francisco and began producing house music. He began DJing around the city at clubs such as The Top, Lit, and Anu. Soon a San Francisco tech house label called Dirtybird, soon noticed Worthy’s talent and asked him to be a resident DJ at their huge monthly summer event in Golden Gate Park along side of Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, and Christian Martin. He has played along side other great DJs such as Jesse Rose, JT Donaldson, Style of Eye, Lance Desardi, and Luke Solomon. In 2006 Worthy started his own label called Katabatic Records to give him a way to release his own music. Katabatic Records has been releasing a steady stream of quality tech house and has gained praises from DJs and Producers from around the world for its edgy music.

2007 saw Worthy break out as a producer with his release of Irst_Te? on Dirtybird, Crack EL EP on Leftroom, and Bass Quake and Mummer EP on Katabatic. As well as doing remixes for Curfew, OM, Utensil, and Tentigo records. Worthy’s music production has been showing up on DJ charts across the world and has been played by everyone from Sven Vath to Ben Watt. 2008 is looking to be another huge year for Worthy with more remixes and originals set to be released, and the continued growth of his label Katabatic Records.

SIMON (3 Turntable Set)
|| Sleaze | xjR EU | Redux XM | djsimon.us ||

Simon has long been a staple to America's nu-electro movement and more so a favorite behind its decks. His infamous "Sleaze" events quickly became highly infectious amongst Washingtonians, & his XM residency "Redux" along with Nigel Richards, Larry Tee & John B continues to garner an increasingly enthusiastic international following (boasting well over 350k listeners just in weekly broadcasts). In 2006 Simon signed to Tommie Sunshine's xjR EU label/collective and has since been focusing all of his free into studio work- tossing out originals, re-edits, & otherwise customizing his favorite tunes for play. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the Sleaze charts featured monthly on Beatport to catch sneak peaks and pointers from the crew.
