God, its been ages since Ive been to a rave. Began my raving career in 1992 and think I stopped somewhere around 2001. Not bad if you ask me. Took it upon myself to carry my camera with me everywhere and caught great moments in time. Got caught up in all that hardcore madness when it was just brewing, when it was young and full of energy. Was bored last night and was going through some old stuff and came across all the videos I shot back in the day. Sure brought lots of good memories, friends, old dusty warehouses, loud bass bins and you definitely cant miss the outfits people wore every weekend! Well, I know this is the wrong section to post this but being that all my material was shot in Los Angeles (yeah!), I thought I'd present it here first.

This video was recorded live at Chemistry, 10/12/1996. 9 years ago! Ron D Core was tearing it up as always (can you tell??) and watching that night all over again, brought a smile on my face. I miss those days. Anyway, enough with the sentimental crap, hope the link works and also, the videofeed works best on DSL, Cable or any other type of broadband. If there is enough interest, I may post more videos (I have Nocturnal Wonderland 1999).

Let me know what you think!

Hell yeah!!! That is what I'm talkin' about. The days of hardcore bounce and speaker rocking. I like the way Ron pulls Full Metal Hell at the end of the recording. It was nights like these that forced me to fall in love with the scene. Thanks for sharing this and briningin' on the nostalgia. LONG LIVE HARDCORE!!!

We were pushed out by all the happy hardcore and were told that Hardcore wasn't PLUR enough......Hardcore techno floated the scene through out all of the 90's. Hardcore just went underground. You can still find parties with tight hardcore and D&B at least once a month they just don't promote like kandy parties, plus they cost half as much to get into. If you're in Southern Cali you can always hit up Dr. Freeclouds and talk to Ron. He'll tell you what's goin off at the time.

If you're referring to Ron D. Core he's the guy throwing down the tracks on the movie clip. He's also L.A.'s godfather of hardcore who owns Dr. Freeclouds mixing lab, it's a record store I get most of my stuff from. As for Hardcoreheadz.net.....it's a cool board but pretty jaded. To me it's attitudes like that which have killed the hardcore scene. But I like a few of the people up on that board and it does have a good calendar.

Ha! I knew you guys would get a kick out of it. The hardcore scene was nice and toasty in the mid-90's and Im glad I was part of it really. The funniest part was one night, R.A.W. was on the flyer and all the hardcore heads were there just for him and all of a sudden, he started spinning jungle. Everyone FLIPPED! R.A.W. was pretty much at the helm of the hardcore scene in L.A. in the 90's, respected, admired and maybe even loved but when he made the switch from hardcore to jungle, he lost his following but gained a new one. If you notice on that video, everyone is raising their hands, bangin their arms against the speakers, huddled up, jumping, moshing together, entranced with the music and that was what hardcore was all about back then...slowly but surely, it changed.

Though the music got more "evil", louder and faster, eventually, it got more violent, people started doing harder drugs, gangbangers got a hold of that scene and started going more often with their crews, gun shots could be heard in parking lots, cops would bust parties more often even if they were legit permits and all, the people you used to see every weekend started losing interest and would not go anymore and after a while, I just gave up on it aswell. The fun, the passion, the unity, the weekdays and weekends, year in and year out that took to build such a scene was literally gone and all that was left was nothing but an empty shell for a "new" generation to fill with new music, new concepts and hopefully a better perspective of how that scene should be.

I agree with everything you're saying OldSchoolRava. I started spinning hardcore in '98 or '99 and that was really the turning point for the scene. The gangster movement really did trash all the work we put into it. A lot of the hardcore dj's moved into Acid Techno and Drum & Bass. Now I mostly spin frenchcore ,when I am not spinning D&B or Acid, it's got a hard edge but not as vicious as some stuff out there. Plus it has lots of cool hip hop samples.
