I do know this. I never heard it called "Booty House" till I started going to parties. I still call it Ghetto House though. And I've always separated Ghetto House and [American] Hard House. They're not the same.

Just because it doesn't SOUND like soul doesn't mean it don't HAVE any soul! It's soulful in an angry sort of way, passionate would probably be a better word to describe it. A lot of early hard house could probably be considered proto-hardcore, but that's really just splitting hairs.

Hard house without soul=Techno

a) rediculous statement. the classification of House is too big & varied to say that Hard House is not House. however, it's also as ludicrous to suggest it the same as "house" because the adjective "hard" prefacing the word "house" suggests that it is similar yet not the same as "house." so really the fact that this is even a discussion is asenine.

b) while we're entertaining this idea, we must first acknowledge that music...beyond being simply just that (music) is purely interpretive & subjective. being that it exists in the form of sound means that it must first be interpreted in order to be...well...interpreted, which is kind of a paradox of its own. suffice to say that as humans, we don't always interpret or identify sounds/sights or smells in the same way. the one constant would be touch, if we were to eliminate injury or disease as a factor.

that being said, it is impossible to really say that one musical genre is "better" or even more "pleasing" to one's ear as a general statement unless we're discussing white-noise or static as these sounds are scientifically proven to be not only displeasing but also injurous or hazardous to one's ears.

however, in the spirit of conversation/discussion i will say that i personally have two distinctions when it comes to EDM (electronic dance music). there's driving techno & there's party techno. (again...this is MY PERSONAL DISTINCTION).

generally, if i can chill & listen to it in the car or in the background while i play a video game or even socialize with some friends...then it falls under the driving techno classification. if i want to turn up the volume & the intensity for a more party-like atmosphere, basically music that i can not only feel physically, but i can also feel emotionally...well, this falls under the party techno classification for me.

Hard house would then fall under the party techno & electro/vocal/disco/euro-disco (etc...) house would all fall under the driving techno classification for me. (mind you, we are specifically discussing house for the time being).

i wouldn't necessarily say i like one better than the other, but i prefer the Electro & Hard-house varieties more than any other. for me, as i'm into Hardcore Techno/Gabber & the like, i enjoy the hard, heavy kicks associated with the harder styles of techno. techno doesn't really get me moving or motivated unless the kick tells me to do so. i enjoy a lot of the melodies or funky-synth rhythms that the other iterations have to offer but it would be in the same sense as Mozart or Soliare or Ambient or R&B or Soul, they drag me in (especially Mozart) but they don't make me want to move or dance or party. i enjoy just to listen. the same can't be said for Beethoven or Tcharkovsky or Punk or Hardcore. these forms of music drive me with bounding energy & rhythm & sometimes i can't even contain myself.

again...this is for me. it is obvious that others make different distinctions. heck, i've seen people dance like they were having an epileptic seizure to Ambient techno before, so i guess it's possible that anything can make you move...it just needs to hit that spot for you.

i'd say one of the largest factors for me is this. 2-4 measures of hi-hat ride & some synth + 4-6 (sometimes more) of bass-kick/tempo foundation that rides into the bridge/criscendo/build...whatever. then you have this build up that gets you going...now you can't wait for the kick to drop so you can start moving again...& then...the kick drops but it makes me feel no different than before the buildup. sure, it's there & the melody or rhythm has picked up...but i feel like i was waiting for Jenna Jameson & wound up getting Paris Hilton, i mean...sure she's pretty (if that's your thing) but she's just gonna lay there & take it & you'd probably not notice the difference if it were some KY & a fleshlight.

with the harder varieties they most definitely come through on their end of the bargain by making the buildup worth your while. not only do they bring the kick-drum but since the genres are based around the kick, they'll even change the kick-type to further emphasize the effect of your criscendo.

in the end....i relate it to this. look at the energy in the crowd during a Rage Against the Machine or Flogging Molly show. then look at the energy at say a Jay-Z or 3-11 show. sure, people might be bobbin' their heads or raising their arms. there might be some sort of a pit at either (yes, even a Jay-Z show, unfortunately). but at a Rage or Flogging Molly show, EVERYBODY is active. it's like a popcorn popper at peak intensity. this is what i'm looking for at a live event. in the end...if i wanted to sit & chill or dance around a little or even just mush, i'd play a highly edited & perfected production quality CD on my home set up & take a hit & let it roll. but i can't do, i can't feel & i can't party the way i'd want to with the harder styles at my house...things would surely wind up broken & neighbors would most certainly be upset.

this is just where i'm coming from...take it or leave it.

BOOTY IS AN UNERSTAT3MENT ... its almost a lost form at partys now.. hard____ . is tooo overstated .. a vibe you can groove to is what i feel is needed.. des..prea.. tly... the noobs will not understand till they go round 3 .. atleast..then if they dont feel it call it quits.. for now things seem over hyped... a unity under an almost "blow out" proportion is truely over due.. what ever happened to the midsummer nights?

old fassioned?...
