We bought presales at Dr. Freeclouds the afternoon of the party. Shortly after we bought tix the infolines were declaring that they had lost their original venue but promised a dope new location. An hour or so later, the lines claimed the party was teaming up with another party at the Orange Show that night (some other mini-massive, don't remember which). I called that party's infoline, and I don't remember if they outright said they weren't combining with Angelic or just didn't mention it at all, but I remember something making me call the Angelic infoline again to be safe...and now it was moved to a "special downtown LA location" and included directions! Now we were getting somewhere...
...until I realized I was getting directions to La Casa, and there was no way in hell a party of that size could go off in that venue.
We got there, the street in front of La Casa was mobbed, there was no line for presale ticket holders, just one big mass of ravers...and a lot of heads saying the place was already at capacity. I saw Rabbit in the Moon's tourbus leave, and heard lots of rumors about other acts leaving while we waited in line. We were there a good long while, an hour or two at least, and slowly cops and the fire dept. started showing up. I could see, hear, and feel things turning ugly sooner rather than later. We left, and I never heard about the promoters again after that. I kept my ticket for a while hoping I'd find out if there was a make-up party or SOMETHING for us. There wasn't, so I had a very expensive bookmark.
So yeah, promised an awesome "virgin location" in SD...and we got a near-riot at La Casa in L.A.
If anyone knows who threw that party, tell them they either owe me a Ming + FS live PA, or at least my $25.
That's the worst one I've been through. I've been to a ton of shitty parties, and seen some retarded shit go down (the usual bs: overcrowding, double or triple the advertised price when you got to the door, ) but nothing will top how retarded that shit was.
Dude - I was there too!! hahaha
That was some crazy shiznite. I was told by a promoter friend at the time that the venue was NOT going to be La Casa, but "something like it.."
Yeah - EXACTLY like it.
Well, you summed it up quite well.. I did make it inside, through the back room, upstairs, and into that "mattress and plastic" room, and sat there for a while before leaving.. I opened that side window upstairs, went out on the fire escape and climbed to the roof and watched the madness for a little while with some friends..
a few bowls.. Later some crazy chick and her boyfriend who lived in downtown just a minute away, invited a bunch of us over.. now that was really fun..
Mini-rave on the open-air 10th story of a nice apartment building..
Off Bixel and something or other..
I miss those days. Fuck. Constant harassment by officials only made it even more fun, in my opinion - it gave it all a truly underground/illegal feeling that was so so so much fun! Damn

Re: Worst Rave Disasters Ever!!
better than how our night turned out - sitting in the homie's backyard puffin' bowls listening to "Hell's Kitchen" by Ming + FS on some headphones.
Oh, and I forgot another shady tactic used by promoters: turning off the sound, and demanding "donations" (from kids that already paid to get in!) in order to get it turned back on. That happened to me at least once at the Fox. I would rather they just try to overcharge me at the door, it's easier to say "yeah, fuck this noise" and leave if you haven't already paid once.
EDIT: "a promoter friend" - who is this kid? is he still your friend? can you arrange a meeting so I can either get an apology and/or beat my $25 out of him? Been holding this grudge for 10 years or so now...got 2 friends who might wanna meet him too.

This was years ago, man.. I don't hang with her anymore, but I could easily find her if I tried.. I think I heard she became the sleepy, lounging sex-property of some high-powered club owner of Chinese descent..
Oh, and she had nothing to do with the party itself.. She just had a supposedly
"inside" contact on the other side, and offered that "Not the La Casa" info just to be nice.
I will say this: It was because of her presence there with me that got us invited to that mini-rave on the apt building.. THe couple who invited us and lived there kept hitting us up for some kind of girlfriend/boyfriend-swapping sex extravaganza thing, which we kindly declined..
We weren't together in any sexual way, let alone looking to get all crazy with each other AND complete strangers who looked like they had screwed every willing human in Los Angeles by that point..heheh

True story - my friend was there, he never got in and did get a facefull of teargas. He kept his untorn ticket for like 2 years. Brought it to Nocturnal 2000 (@ the Indio Polo Grounds, where Coachella is) and somehow was able to not only track down Pasquale outside, but get a free VIP ticket for the party. Since then I've had a bit more respect for Insomniac. Of the "massive" promoters, I definitely respect them more than any of the others.
TRANSPHYSICS - At the Glasshouse in Pomona. Someone called in a bogus anthrax threat. CDC showed up in full decontamination suits!
I heard this story at my first Glass House party in l'98. I swear I thought it was a Raver Urban Legend, it just sounded like bullshit - like if that actually happened, why would they keep throwing parties there? It didn't help that most of the folks I heard about it from "heard from their friend who had a friend who knew someone who was there"
I was convinced Raver Ranch was an Urban Legend when it first surfaced as a venue, because every kid I met had never been there but swore it was like some sort of raver Shangri-La, a paradise unseen before etc.
Now I just WISH stories like those were bullshit, because the reality is so much sadder.

I was mostly kidding.
She wouldn't happen to be a junglist chick name Nicki from North SD County? Like near Carlsbad or Oside? I swear she told me something like that too, now that you got me thinking about it. Haven't heard from that chick in yeeeeeeears.

I feel you..
Actually, she was from Silverlake as far as I knew - born and raised - and
I knew her as Meghan. Whether or not that was her real name, the world
may never know...She never let me look at her Drivers License.
Fuckin ravers, seriously. I've NEVER had a problem introducing myself with
my real name, unless the person obviously wished me harm or something..

Re: Worst Rave Disasters Ever!!
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet because I haven't read the rest of this thread, but the worst rave disaster I've ever been to was the Perception Thank You Party in the Summer of 2006...
It wasn't a disaster because of anything related to how it was run necessarily...though I wonder if certain things that happened could have been prevented...
It was an outdoor, seemingly in an "un-bustable" spot. After driving for about an hour or so and reaching the marker, we and our friends who were following us in a van turned off the main road, reset our odometers and proceeded down a sometimes steep, sandy road. After winding around hill after hill and sometimes scraping the car on parts of the trail, we finally saw other cars and lights up ahead, and began to hear music...
The two stages didn't really have enough bass for the outdoor environment, and were both on a curved surface so dancing wasn't really possible for very long. After about 10 mins of listening to the weak music coming from the stages we just went back to my friends car and listened to his stereo since he had a pretty good system...We stayed at his car for about 40 mins, sometimes venturing out to explore the party before returning to the car before we saw cop lights coming down the hill.
Almost an hour into us being there...less time than it had taken us to drive there and the party was busted. Greeat.
So we gathered everyone up and then realized a couple of problems simultaneously: that there was only one entrance/exit for this little valley we were in...that there were a lot of cars, and that the trail we needed to use to get out was made up of primarily sand and pebbles.
Cars began getting stuck immediately. The cops just sat there with their lights on, watching as car after car got stuck, for sometimes 10 minutes at a time as people tried to get up the hill one by one. It took up around an hour and a half to get out, and we were near the front of the line. There was a point where we just shut the car off every five feet and listened to music, knowing we'd be sitting there for awhile. I have no idea how the cops knew where the spot was, or how long it took everyone else to get out. Judging by how many cars there were, I'm guessing it took awhile.
After we got back to my friend Jenny's house, we just chilled in her room and listened to music until the sun came up...so the night wasn't a complete waste.
As far as 'party disasters' go, this really wasn't that bad...I guess it could've gone a lot worse than it did.

never been to a rave that had that many cops lurking around or that many pissed off ptots hanging around outside.
and people got tear gassed.
the inside parts sucked because it was SOOOO fucking hot you couldn't go in for more than 2 minutes. and the music outside wasn't that loud.
i know its pretty recent, but it was a disappointment, in my opinion.

Re: Worst Rave Disasters Ever!!
420 Bust-Festival 2009....never talked to so many undercovers wearing bandanna's in
all my life..watching ravers get busted every which way and even a cop holding a gun
to a kids neck to try to bring him into some sketchy interogation room at Pharoahs.
FUCK PHAROAHS FOR EVER, except Garden of Eden because all the cops were at Sin \
City :-p
Followed by Nu Disko 2008, waited in line for almost 2 hours just to rave it up in a
venue designed for 500 ppl max with 5 Bathrooms and ( 4000 people to occupy them )
After the event ended i cranked up ATB in my truck and had a mob of like 50 ravers
chillin by it while this P.I sat in his car right next to us because his homie was
parked in front of me hahahaahhaha
epic.

1. Grape Ape
-what A Nightmare. A Dangerous Nightmare. The Promoter Got Wild Rivers Water Park Which Was Cool But Because Of Major Lagging, Did Not Have The Stages Constructed When He Let People In. So What Happened, Well About A 1001 Party Crews Ran For The Stages, Picked Up The Nail Guns And 2x4's And Began Beating Each Other And Other People Over The Head With Them. Lol. I Dont Know Where Grape Ape Promoted But Ive Never Seen So Many Hoodlums In My Life. They Were Starting Fires, Beating Up Kids, And Totally Destroying The Place. So Wild Rivers Called In Swat Which Stormed In And Then They Began To Beat People. What A Mess!!! I Just Jope This Next Rave They Got Comming Up Called" Future Ape" Is Better Prepared And Has A Lot More Security. Oh And Please Dont Promote To Gangbangers. Theyell Just Steal Our Glowsticks And Pound Our Heads. Bring Your Helmets And Watch Your Backs Friends!!!
2. Circa 97/98?
This Was Downtown And Sadly Was The End Of One Of The Best La Promoters Ever, Cpu101. What Happened???? Well Some Idiot Started Passing Out Herbal E Laced With Some Kind Of Poison And Kids Began Dropping Like Flies. Ive Never Seen So Many Paramedics Rush In To A Rave Like That. Kids Were Sprwaled Out Everywhere. So The Cops Came In, Shut Down The Party And Because It Was New Years, We Were Like Fuck That!! So Buses Got Overturned, Tear Gas Was Fired And A New Years Destroyed. I Actually Feel Bad For This Promoter Unlike The Grape Ape Guy, Because It Was Some Jerk Who Came In And Poisoned People Without The Promoter Knowng Anything About It.
2 Raves That Never Should Of Happened And Because They Did, Will Forever Be The Worst Of The Worst.
