The following are some things that may help... and it's highly likely many of you know these things already, but for those who don't, it helps, ey?
OK First off... ORGANIZING MUSIC FILES When you download music, where does your music go? Is it all jumbled up in one folder? Are you confused about how to organize that shit? Well you don't have to give too much of a shit if you use this one option in itunes. What I do is go to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced Tab -> General Tab. Check-mark "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized" Check-mark "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" So what this does is.. anytime you add a song to the library, it copies it into the itunes music folder and creates sub folders automatically according to artist/song name/album etc etc. That way, anything you download, you just add to your library and delete the music from your cluttered download folder cause its already organized itself somewhere else. I would recommend you switch this option on, and start your library from scratch if you haven't done this before. NEXT POINT! Make it a habit to update the ID3 tags of your music properly anytime you download music. Put the proper album name, genre, all that awesome stuff so you have a neater library. Next Point!! The way I have my library-view setup is like this... OK you see the column header where it says name, time, artist, etc etc.. Right-click on that header and add the "Date Added" column to your list. Remove headers that you don't really pay attention to. Now you can sort your library by "Date Added." Your newer music can on top now.. and overtime as you build your library you'll be able to find your music through chronological order very easily. Our minds remember that way very easily. If you own an ipod/iphone, I recommend you use the rating-system to rate your music too, it becomes really helpful to make playlists and shit! (I've made it a habit to rate songs I dislike as 1-star on my ipod and then when I sync it back to my library, I delete any 1-rated songs) And thats all i could think of, but I hope it helps some of you crazy music peeps who are sorta noob-ish at some things. ![]() |

I personally hate how itunes can take over your music folder as you mentioned in your first tip, but to each his/her own.
The date added tip is good though. Also, if you need to add the same piece of ID3 information to a bunch of songs (say the name of the album that all the songs are on), you can select all the songs (by holding ctrl while you click each one), and then right click one of the songs and click "get info". When it comes up all the fields will be blank, but add the album name in the "album" field and it will update all the files you selected. |
