My $.02.
if you think about it, a vast majority of the people who DO vote, are the "indifferent and ignorant"

so wouldn't it be better to have MORE indifferent and ignorant people voting, as to balance out the idiocy?

:-p

Our voting system is flawed. No news there. Electoral College? We need to get rid of that completely.

How long have our voting laws been screwed up? Quite a while, and it's evident that nobody is doing anything to fix them. Maybe if word got out that change needs to happen - ENOUGH people will get with the program somewhere and elect a 'good guy' to high government. He'll put in a bill of ub3r-changeness, and things will be fine and dandy again.
almost 8 years ago when we voted george bush into office, he was in a position to change the country.

now we have to wait for another round of USSC senators to grow old and choke.

ok one thing i have learned is that statistics can be made to lie any way you want them to. i would love to see this book so that i can actually sit there and pick apart the stats that it is showing.

lol well it isn't as if anyone gathers data that isn't beneficial to the point they're trying to get across. but we all know that voting has declined dramatically, this book just explores why it is so and the ways it's perilous to democracy. it's a pretty good read, if you're still interested i have it somewhere

i am because i know that i can make statistics lie any which way i would like them to lie. i mean i could create statistics that say we want an empty soda can to be president, and as long as i word things right people would believe it. so yeah i would like to read this book. it might be fun for my stats class to look at.

LOL this reminds me of my morning. i stopped by the grocery store today to pick up a giant bottle of cranberry juice to sip on all day. i obviously went for the only brand that said "CRANBERRY JUICE!!! 100% juice". being in a rush i went ahead and bought it. later in the afternoon i looked at the label, and discovered this

"ingredients: 100% grape & cranberry juice, etc etc"

no i mean i can take and say that i have a statistic that say 95% of people polled think that a paper cup is better as a president than bush is. that would mean nothing if i dont have a margin of error, confidence interval, or anything else. who knows if it was random, or independent, or if it was biased in some way. maybe my wording created it.

Considering how voting in the higher elections means nothing, I can't really see any reason why it should be mandatory. No point in trying to get more people interested/invested in a bullshit process.
