It's happened before. Look it up. I remember reading somewhere a girl marrying a dolphin.

This is such a mixed bag of emotions and thought on a single topic, not even sure where to start! Sorry for the incoming novel hehehe First, I'm really happy that California will "allow" a same sex couple to get married. I have had several friends that I know are likely already planning things for their upcoming date, and I can't wait to see it. It's not the final battle, but it's a great step in the right direction. Having both a marriage and a civil union would be the best of both worlds in my eyes, though, not just one or the other. Starting with the religious views, by what right do ordinary mortals have the audacity to challenge the word of God(s) and Goddess(es)? Pick whatever religion you want, do they even acknowledge mortal laws or customs? Christianity is the easiest for most of us to relate to... does the Bible state: "Thou shalt not commit Murder, unless in a Government (or Church) sanctioned war." It truly is a higher power that you're answerable to, if you truly believe in the religion that you say you do. Loopholes and excuses won't stand for much when a soul is on trial. If a particular religion feels that two grown adults can decide that they want to become 2 halves of a whole person, by what right does ANYone else have to gainsay that? It's time to move beyond religious repression, and truly seperate the Church and the State. Let marriage fall to the Churches to decide. But if we do, let the rights that come with marriage apply only to those that have applied and recieved a civil union. Especially since it has already been fought and won that same sex couples are fully capable of recieving one. People that don't want to get "married" or for whatever reason cannot get married, will still have available the rights and protections that is their due. But having the State decide who is and who is not allowed to be in a civil union protects us from future lawsuits that gay marriage will open the door to. After all, if same sex marriage is now legal, why isn't bigomy? Or Father/Daughter? Before judging either of these (and others I haven't thought of) as morally corrupt and therefor something that should never be allowed... isn't that what has been said by many about same sex? Rogue brought up a an awesome point about divorce. And I agree, it's sad. "Till Death Do You Part" no longer matters to people. One partner cheats, so the other files for divorce... both of them have forsaken their vows. In my group of friends, there are more divorced people than married... I hope that things reverse, or the court's decision will soon be a rather hollow victory Till then, though - let's enjoy the good news! Big hug to all my friends (and future friends) that this long awaited decision gives reasons to celebrate!! ![]() |

I may not agree with it, but who am I to tell someone how to run their lives based on what I believe?
(and comparing a marrige between two consenting adults to someone who wants to marry their pet/inanimate object is borderline insulting. FYI.) |

Also....you mention about how who are we to say that our belief or how we think law is above the word of god? that we can not question something so far above us....
but what if we don't believe in god? you have to remember....god is a belief.....not a provable existent thing so you can not really use the argument that we can't go against gods word. "by what right do ordinary mortals have the audacity to challenge the word of God(s) and Goddess(es)? Pick whatever religion you want, do they even acknowledge mortal laws or customs? Christianity is the easiest for most of us to relate to... does the Bible state: "Thou shalt not commit Murder, unless in a Government (or Church) sanctioned war." It truly is a higher power that you're answerable to, if you truly believe in the religion that you say you do. Loopholes and excuses won't stand for much when a soul is on trial." I'm sorry...but i am jewish. grew up very religious. so did my parents and my family friends. I consider myself conservative, which is very much in the middle right now, deciding which way to go. it is separating the denomination. but right now? the vast majority of Judaism below orthodoxy agrees that gay marriage should be allowed, and many temples hold ceromonies. it is because no where, in all of the original bible, did god(yes, the one Christianity is based upon) say that marriage is something only between a man and a woman. |
