it's true...tangents are not bad at all. they broaden the discussion while also being able to come back to original specific topic.

Regardless of the benefits involved. What if you and your spouse were madly in love. You both plan on getting “married” but end up being told you have to setting for a “union”.

That would be kind of heartbreaking. (imo)

We associate marriage with life and love.

You want to spend the rest of your life with someone you love.

That’s why folks get MARRIED (a marriage, not a union).

Even non-religious folks get married.

I’m glad that for now, gay men and women can get married. I personally, would never marry anybody (in opinion, marriage is a waste of time) for whatever reason BUT what works for me may not work for the next person. I have this “I do what I want, I won’t worry about what you do, and you don’t worry about what I do” attitude.

If Sam and Emily want to get married, they should be free to do so.
If Sam and George want to get married, they should be free to do so.
If Emily and Jessica want to get married, they should be free to do so.

I’m not going to deny someone else a right (especially an expression of love such as marriage) just because I don’t agree with it.

Like I said before, I think Marriage overall is a waste, but you don’t see me rallying against married couples because I don’t agree with it.

Why can’t others be the same way?

(Kinda like freedom of speech. I may not like what you say, but I’ll fight for your right to say it)
Thank you for clearly stating what i typed before. (I was in a rush to get yummy food!)

And....WE NEED TO MEET!!!!

As for people feeling cheated, that's a hard one to answer. There are lots of things in America that I wish were legal, but aren't. When I used to smoke weed I felt cheated that I couldn't legally smoke weed. What did I do? Smoked anyways. There isn't really much people can do to stop homosexual couples from getting married. In fact, I think it would be a waste of valuable resources to do. As someone already stated in this thread, I also believe the government should not be able to make the distinction of whether it's legal or not. I know that my Church does not preform homosexual marriages and for lack of a better phrase, that's enough for me.
okay okay i get it.
I respect your viewpoint as well.
i think its the angle that religious zealots need to see,,,,
keep marriage as a religious thing in their mind and their church....but hey what the government states as law is law.

i'm really glad that the ban has lifted. i know that will make a lot of people happy.

however, i really think the state supreme court went out on a limb to go with a close decision like that. i bet you if they had a unanimous decision, there wouldn't be so many people trying to fight it. this will definitely going to the u.s. supreme court in the future.

Doodles: This cannot go to the supreme court since it was a state court decision. It is a state's rights issue. That said, the federal gov't is not currently recognizing gay marriages and thus gays would only recognized as married within california (and Massachusettes)

And for all the straight guys/girls out there who don't give a fuck about this decision because it doesn't affect you, I'M THRILLED THAT YOU LOOK AT IT THAT WAY! What the fuck do all those right wing bigots care about with what I do with my personal life? Its a free fucking country and its not going to affect them the slightest

In regards to the marriage/civil-unions debate... I agree that marriage is a religious event and only a church/temple/mosque should be allowed to determine who gets married at their ceremonies, as they are private institutions and do not have to deal with *silly* things like equality for all. However, that means that if you want to recognized in the eyes of the gov't you must join in a civil-union, open to anybody of any gender.

Now, if I could only find a hot raver boy, I'd head straight to the alter... please send applications to myspace address below

The parties cannot appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, Herrera said, as federal courts do not have jurisdiction over the state laws. "This is the final say," he said.

This is a quote taken directly from the CNN article, however there is an attempt to place a state constitutional admendment on the nevember ballot that will define marriage as limited to a man and a women.

So the fight isn't over yet, and probably never will be but this is a huge step in the right direction

I kinda said this in a previous post (klover did too)

Regardless of religion, or law…

If I were in love with someone (man or woman), my initial thought would be to ask this person to marry me.

I won’t be all like “hey babe, let’s go get a civil union”.

Civil union sounds so dry and unsympathetic.

It’s like “sorry fags, NO…you can’t get married. Because MY believes said so. But hey! Here’s a civil union to make you feel better. I know it sucks, but MY beliefs run YOUR life.”

I just thought I should share, and share it in this post...

Yesterday when I went to work I excitedly and happily spread the news to all my coworkers: "California lifted the ban on gay marriage"!

Several of my coworkers happily shared my glee, one even told me "oh my gosh, now my sister can marry!" I was so happy for her

One of the waitresses tho...

FREAKED the fuck out

she started YELLING at me and CURSING at me

"WHO THE FUCK DECIDED THIS? WHO THE FUCK SAID THESE PEOPLE CAN DO THIS? THAT'S FUCKING DISGUSTING"

O_O

at first i was offended that I was being talked to in such a way, but then I laughed in her face.

me: "HOW THE FUCK.
DOES THESE PEOPLE MARRYING.
AFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY?!"

her: "BECAUSE IT'S DISGUSTING"

me: "that's something I can't change your mind about, but they don't flaunt it in your face, they don't talk to you, they don't AFFECT you. why does their marriage relate to you in ANY way?"

her: "I DON'T WANT TO FUCKING TALK ABOUT IT"

me: "because god said so? you feel you are a worthy representative of God's Word?"

her: "IT GOES AGAINST THE BIBLE"

man shut the fuck up you ignorant bible thumping whore.
