even though you could die in the line of duty or be maimed.... it's hard enough to find a good job. this looks really good on a resume.. it says loads about your chararcter; more than you would think at face value. i don't think there's a better choice you could make for your life. it just shows your parents and all your friends that you're there and you know where you're going with your life. there's no real down side. you can't really compare it to other jobs because it's different, and everyone needs a job.

On my deployment at least 4 people were within 6 months of their contracts being over.

I don't see nothing really wrong with joining the military, other then the fact of dealing with b.s. most of the time.

but you do get a steady paycheck, benefits and you work with people that won't fuck you over.

the air force was really great because it was like a regular job, 7-4, m-f, sometimes you work on the weekends with days reimbursed and the brotherhood is something hard to find in civilian jobs.

people that are scared to join because they feel like they'll lose their lives just for foing something for their country are pussies in my opinion.
people can die in the civilian world as well.

I now serve ine the army national guard and its still a great part of the military.

but to each their own.

whoever says stoploss hasnt been in affect since 03, go kill yourself. "if your less than 1 yr away from getting out, they dont deploy you?!" nah, they will deploy your ass if u get orders to deploy before your almost out...within 3 months of ur ETS date. this is for the army atleast, i dont know about the other military branches.

ppl have different views of the military, i, for one, hate it although imma have a good resume` when i get out, fuuuuck yes son!

How many soldiers come back and work for under $15.00 per hour? Fast food, Home Depot, Lowes, pizza delivery, Costco, Wall-MArt etc is full of veterans. Its rare that you will get shot at while at work, and you don't need to join the military to get one of those jobs. All you need, is to be able to spell your name on the application.

In your infinite wisdom, perhaps not. That being said, your field of view is limited at best. You could go to school (without the GI bill) using student loans and become a doctor, nurse, lawyer, investment banker, flight attendant, teacher, accountant, massage therapist, etc etc etc.

Where exactly is "there"?

There is almost nothing but downside. I'm not trying to say that it doesn't have a purpose. In the greater scheme of things, the military industrial complex sustains a significant portion of our economy. That being said, there are MANY productive choices available to you that don't risk life or limb to statistically end up working for a little more than double minimum wage.

This is true, but a weak excuse to join. You have your whole life in front of you. Seemingly minor decisions can carry extreme consequences. How you spend the next few years can greatly determine the quality of life you have and more importantly how long that life is.

Is it just me, or does it seem a little ironic that a website based on a vehicle of plur has become a covert advertising mechanisim for killing other people?

So the drug charge in combination with a DUI and several misdemeanors means the army can't take me in. I spoke with the recruiter today and he said it is not possible and that there are no waivers for when that happens. I've talked to the airforce and the army, and they both said the same thing. I'm sure there are other ways I can serve my country, I just haven't found out what they are.

I think it's the reason we can plur. You have to remember we're not one big happy earth, that's just nieve. That means someone's got to secure that freedom and not everyone is open to diplomacy which means unfortunately people have to die. Unless you like living under oppression...

DO IT! army is the worst, but do it anyway if its all you got. my roommate is in korea right now and hes driving bradleys, even though he went in as infantry LOL. army is wack. join the usmc or the air force! it definetly makes you appreciate this nation a lot more once you go in, even if it is a little screwy (hilary clinton) every now and then.

Join the Air force if any. Many stepping stones for other jobs in the civilian life and they probably deal with the least amount of bullshit.

I think you meant naive. I think you don't know what plur is. Nevertheless, On behalf of my family, I would like to thank and congratulate you for being the tool that you are. Thanks for securing freedom and kicking down the doors of diplomacy. Now, little children all over the third world "can plur". Good luck fighting for oppression.

Well I'm glad you get your rocks off by being a total dick, but to each his own. You sound like a real bitter person, I found one of the greatest joys is giving to others and a way to do that was enlisting in the Navy. What have you been a part of that's greater than yourself? I've met some of the greatest people, people I would have never met if I never left my comfort zone. I've seen more places than you can count on your hands and I was paid to do it. So be as critical and closed minded as you want because I'd do the military all over again.
I have...
climbed Fujisan
braved the stairs of the Petronas Towers (Malaysia)
crossed the DMZ of Korea
celebrated the Fourth of July in Russia
sailed Kowloon from HK
made it alive out of King's Cross (Australia)
sun bathed the beaches of Saipan
patroned the Hard Rock Hotel Pattaya (Thailand)
and next year I'll finally see the Med and the Gulf

Let me guess, you're working at Wal-Mart or paying off ridiculous college debt? Oh yeah, I owe you a thanks because your tax dollars have payed for it all. Peace out dude, and PLUR (whatever it is)!

In spite of all my critics, i still say join.

It will be the best and worst time of your life, and the guys you suffer through it with will be friends your entire life.

Those who bleed with me today will forever be my brothers.

I fucking love being in the marines. Even when its complete and total bullshit, its still kinda fun.
