We were speaking about HIV, ways to protect against it, how it is transmitted, and all things related.

A girl near the front:

Girl: Oh! and don't go to raves!
Me: psh what are you talking about?
Girl: a friend of mine went to one, passed out, and woke up with a needle in her saying "Welcome to the wonderful world of HIV!"

Teacher: you knew this girl?
Girl: it was a friend of a friend....
Me *cutting in*: ...of a friend of a friend....it always is....a friend of a friend....
*class laughs*

Girl: she even got tested and came out positive
Me: that shit is paranoia and rumor started
Teacher: And i would go back to the fact that she passed out; she should analyze the starting point of her conflicting safety and health with the drugs she chose to take before blaming others.

Me: Agree. and if this person DID get HIV, she also probably just blamed raving on it, which is lame instead of probably just having too much sex and not using condoms...admit to your own mistakes people. And as the person who probably raves the most in the room, that story is most likely false and you are more likely to get an STD or HIV by having sex at all.

Teacher: back to the immune system and HIV.....

Just thought i'd share that with you.

But anyway, yeah it's so ridiculous when people say stuff like that and they're so set in their opinions, when really they've formed their position on a subject based off of infamous urban legends.

Just the other day one of my best friends said she heard that shrooms make your brain bleed, and I told her that's insane and she kept saying, "I dunno, I believe it." I was just like do I seriously have to explain to you how that can't possibly be true and how bizarre of a statement that is?! Ignorance FTL, especially because of how fast it spreads amongst gullible people.
