Are you kidding? All of that extra pay. Cartons of cigarettes for $5 (if you smoke, i used to big time.) All the free energy drinks you want. Best food EVER (food=high morale.) I mean, it sucks because you dont have much else to do but go on missions (if youre combat arms) and play video games/cruise the net when youre not. Sleep optional. Heh, time flies. Granted; i dont ever want to go back (iran .. please just .. you know .. stop that nuclear shit and grow flowers or something,) but it isnt all that bad. Quote:

Whats your issue with the military? Ive actually never come across a person that doesnt appreciate the armed forces.
Our government; i can understand, but the military? |

ex: his commander would ask the government for money (saying more equipment is needed) but actually, he used the money to buy himself a flat screen TV. our tax dollars right there... AND ive spent some time on base and 90% of the guys i met are trailer trash. and that 90% didnt join the military to 'do our country a service' they did it for the benefits of themselves! contract marriages, made up injuries, etc. etc. it's all for the money. even though the pay isnt much, but guys dont find out until after they joined. AND the recruiters lie!!! ex: my boy's brother joined the military because his recruiter promised him a job being a firefighter (it has been a long dream of his to become one) and promised him an advanced bonus and that he will never go to Iraq... where is he now? being a military police over in Iraq. |

a lot of people serve in the military because they're too lazy to make any real life aspirations for themselves, so they join to have other people make decisions for them. a type of escape mechanism |

I mean, sure, workplace [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in the civilian world. It definitely happens a lot less, and on a much smaller scale in the military. Ive never been a victim nor a witness to government corruption. Made up injuries? Ive seen that happen in the rave scene - people calling thier world and making excuses so they can party or recover or whatever - so does that mean youre going to leave the scene because of this form of corruption? I dont buy it when people tell me thier recruiter 'lied to them.' No offense, but your boy is an idiot if he believed his recruiter when he told him he wont go to iraq, especially being in a dual-mission field like the MPs. I dont understand the thing re: firefighter, but you get to choose your job in the military, he obviously chose MPs because he couldnt qualify for the firefighter mos. Recruiters sometimes lie to get recruits in. I didnt have this experience, but i KNEW about it. It's common knowledge. Military pay isnt that bad at all. Everything Solders make a month is net. No bills except electives like car payments, insurance, internet, etc. Housing is free. Food is paid for. Medical/dental, free. Again; its unfortunate that your boy had a bad experience with the military, but dont let his dissatisfaction with what he knew he was getting into cloud your judgment. Quote:
No matter what thier reason for joining - everybody has a different story. It isnt about money for everybody. Me, im here to serve because our government was really good to my family when we first got here. Some people do it for the college money. Some for stability. Why is that so wrong? The military is an AWESOME stepping stone; even if you just do two years and get out. That automatically says this about you: this person came to work every day, on time, did well at work, and is reliable. At most places an honorable discharge will get you management level or above position. Just a thought. Last edited by pico; 17.7.2008 at 10:15 pm.. Reason: automerged doublepost |

I think the military is the best thing that could happen to someone. One of the major benefits is the college money and education. I really want to be involved in the medical industry but having major difficulties during highschool due to health problems i couldnt obtain a definate scholarship. Military was a great option; it had what i was looking for and would look outstanding on a resume.

i think dying for a cause is the most noble thing a person could do. nevermind the cause. to have that much dedication -or i assume what you may- bravado, is mind boggling. i could only DREAM of there being a cause i think important enough to set lay down my life for. however, alot of soldiers/marines/airmen/sailors do not think like that. idk, i guess i romanticize the idea of being a warrior.
