I was just driving home and I heard Benny's Satisfaction remixed into some crappy hip-hop song.
Why can't they make some original beats? Why do they have to ruin the original music? First Kanye, then I heard Alice Deejay's Better Off Alone beat ripped off into a song, now this. I don't like it. |

I didn't like it either, but then I kind of sat there and thought about it, as to how a few years back, hip hop artist couldn't stand that type of music. I dunno that's just my 2 centavos ![]() |

ok heres the nuts and bolts of why this is happening.
X is hotter in the hoods than anywhere else right now. While on X, even hardcore, anti-rave..people who refuse to give anything a chance thats not either "hip hop" or "rap"..can't deny that when rolling, the digital effects used in techno, seem to jive so much better..and it's trickled up, to where most hip hop producers and artists are also rolling when they do their thing, so they too are starting to see the beauty in the techniques EDM DJ's have used for years..Its evolution and sometimes, that will take two seemingly opposite genres and combine them, for a new audience. I'm sure, old heads will never embrace the newest "version" of technoHop..they will denounce it, and call it nefarious...but to the majority of kids just coming into the scene, this was exactly what they we're waiting for.As a musician, I can tell you one certainty about music. There is no "good" music or "bad" music. There is only music, and you either like it or you don't, and usually, a certain type of music, will define an era, or a "scene" as we put it. And thats fine, until the evolution begins..and then the old-schoolers, almost never like what is replacing what they have known and loved so many years..and the new-schoolers, seem to never want to honor the genre they are replacing...well in this instance they ARE honoring it, By finally acknowledging that techno has it's place, and adding touches of it, to their music, in an attempt to bridge a social barrier. thats as close to homage you can expect, coming from a very close minded bunch of peoples. For the record, I took a techno CD, over to my boys house in the hood, and they gave me a funny look when I told them what it was, but by the end of the night, they we're asking me to play that CD, and "do the lights thing". ![]() |

For the record, the Kanye West Stronger track as an organized collab. between Kanye and Daft punk. Kanye didn't "steal" the beat, he worked with the original creators of that track to produce a new version.
Beyond that, yeah I've heard various hip hop songs with EDM beats behind them, but when you consider that most EDM producers come up with their beats from a computer program, how are the hip hop artists stealing this supposedly "original" material? I'm sure if I sat down with Reason, Fruity Loops, or Ableton I could eventually crank out the beats and melodies to just about any EDM track out there. |

nice attempt to troll me, but shut up. edm is NOT mainstream in our culture. our mainstream is what we hear on kroq, mtv - the general, stereotypical anuses that shit out crappy music faster than they can ingest it. soon it'll be mainstream, soon it'll be on kroq and mtv. soon it'll be all we hear. soon it will become shitty. or maybe not? maybe new genres will develop. who knows. |
