federal prison vs state prison

it looks like a friend of mine will be getting locked up for about a year in federal prison. Anybody know what's the difference in federal prison from state prison?

Federal prisons are by far much better. They have better living conditions and lenient rules than any state prisons. You're not thrown all together with all the different criminals. Meaning, if you stole millions of dollars ("white collar" crime), youre not gonna be together with gangsters who committed violent crimes. In state prison, you will be humiliated and have to deal with ALL the criminals all together. So yea. Federal is more like a hotel.

Downside is... you don't get any chances for parole and no conjugal visitations. But.. then again he's only serving a year so it doesn't matter.
