I think it's time to have a thread about everyone's favorite quotes.
Here are some of mine: I never let schooling get in the way of my education -- Mark Twain be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. --dr. seuss Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You. --dr. seuss I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind. Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me! --dr. seuss Me, Im dishonest. you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest, honestly. Its the honest one's you've got to watch out for, because you will never know when their about to do something incredibly stupid... Captain Jack Sparrow We're all pretty bizzare. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that's all -Breakfast Club "I'm sorry to say so But, sadly it's true That bang-ups and hang-ups Can happen to you."-Dr. Seuss "All you really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt."-(Lucy Van Pelt from Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts) (Masquerade holding up a starwberry shortcake ice-cream cone towards me) Me: Those are so delicious and yummy! Masquerade: I know, they taste like summer camp! When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. -Jimi Hendrix Vesper Lynd: You're not going to let me in there, are you? You've got your armour back on. That's that. James Bond: I have no armour left. You've stripped it from me. Whatever is left of me - whatever is left of me - whatever I am - I'm yours. Remy: [defiantly] No. Dad, I don't believe it. You're telling me that the future is - can only be - more of this? Django: This is the way things are; you can't change nature. Remy: Change is nature, Dad. The part that we can influence. And it starts when we decide. Django: [Remy turns to leave] Where are you going? Remy: With luck, forward. I see things like this, a rave is my church, dancing is my prayer, DJ is the preacher, Music is the words of god. Bump your body with the beat, feel the bass going through your feet. On and on you dance away, have the world just fly away. -- Hibiscus "...But know that while you may shut down any given party, on any given night, in any given city, in any given country or continent on this beautiful planet, you can never shut down the entire party. You don't have access to that switch, no matter what you may think. The music will never stop. The heartbeat will never fade. The party will never end...." --Ravelinker (forgot who) and one of my favorite excerpts, for which is my inspiration to become a chef/food critic: "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto: Anyone can cook. But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more. " -- Anton Ego, 'Ratatouille.' there are so many more..... |

"spongebob, could you turn me into a jar of mayo so i can eat myself?"
"SEE YOU FROM THE BACK OF MY MILK CARTON" "life is like a box of chocolates... there's only one god damned caramel." Gary: Look, maybe us Mormons do believe in crazy stories that make absolutely no sense, and maybe Joseph Smith did make it all up, but I have a great life. and a great family, and I have the Book of Mormon to thank for that. The truth is, I don't care if Joseph Smith made it all up, because what the church teaches now is loving your family, being nice and helping people. And even though people in this town might think that's stupid, I still choose to believe in it. All I ever did was try to be your friend, Stan, but you're so "high and mighty you couldn't look past my religion and just be my friend back. You've got a lot of growing up to do, buddy. Suck my balls. [turns around and walks off] Cartman: Damn, that kid is cool, huh? "a tree only hits a car in self defense" "this just in- energizer bunny arrested. charged with battery." "one, two, three.....eighteen, nineteen... uh.... ten ten?" "Of course this is just happening inside your head; but why on earth should that mean it's not real?" adam west: Ahh, Pardon me, I just bought a rottweiler, and i need a sign to warn people how dangerous it is. Employee: Well, we have exactly wh... Mayor Adam West: Ahh yes, here it is... ONE WAY. So people will know if they step into my yard, there is only one way out. In a body bag, from dog injuries. "theres no time for sleep; you can do that when you're dead." "dance to express, not to impress." |

but salmons are perfectly content with how they die - to fulfill their purpose on earth.
It's the way they live, mate, and pass on their future young. but is contentment and duty really something to strive for in life? shouldn't people strive for more than just what they are here for? Can we please thread jack my own thread with this topic? damn...i have to go pick up masquerade and sweet-E/Sutra from the beach. Discuss!!! |

From my favorite philosopher, Nietzsche:
A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything. He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you. From Stephen Hawking: We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special. Voltaire: Ice-cream is exquisite - what a pity it isn't illegal. |

My cynical, realistic side of me is telling me there is no way on earth a raver reads up on Nietzche or Voltaire, and you just quickly copy-pasted some quotes you found online.
But my hopeful, optimistic side is impressed and delighted. |
