JACKMASTER has it right on. When I started partying all I heard was 96 was the year. Know I say 2000 was the year. Parties are not what they were but either are the people at them. Raves used to be filled with taggers and skaters. Now it's filled with everyone. Paries have also gotten way bigger than anyone 10 years ago would have guessed. Is it a fad... For me it wasn't, but for 99% of my friends it was. For each person it's different and no matter what happens Tone. Def is also right... The next generation will do drugs, dance all night and listen to music. Will it be house, trance and drum and bass... Who Know... Guess we will find out.

and for you other trying to rep the nineties, do you not remember grunge, saying things like "booyah!" "oh snap!" and "getting jiggy?" keep your boy band nostalgia to yourself. kick rocks.

I was one of the noobs who started back in 99 and left the scene in 2001! Well its been a good 7 years and I'm back into it! More so just for the music!

i think it's funny how some people base the quality of the party they went to on how good the drugs they took that night were.
seriously, if youre having a good candy flip at a party, of course youre going to have a good time. but youre also not going to have a very accurate perception of the rave.

just like anything thats popular there is a cycle it goes through. I was 17 when raving was in for us. Partied for 3 years and just reading this site a few years after not stepping foot on the floor, it seems like nothing has changed.

i'm sure plenty of the wise elders who've been through the ups and downs of the rave scene (don't know if they actually exist on this board) would say that raving is no more a fad than punk rock, for example, is. noobs may come into the rave scene, and burn out quickly, just to be replaced by more noobs. i think we treat them as posers or deride them as noobs cause they may just not be as knowledgeable about the rave scene, yet. if they find the scene at all worthwhile, though, they will stick with it and hopefully be positive members of it.

on the other hand, you have true posers who will typically be a part of the noob crowd, not know much about the scene, but pretend like they do or pretend to be deep into it. i have these friends. they're the ones who, upon finding out that nocturnal was out in san bernardino, said fuck that shit. they didn't even care who was spinning.

they'll only go to monster massive cause "it's so fun and did you know pvd will be there?" no shit he'll be there he's there every year and i feel bad that you'll subject yourself to that pigpen just to see paulvanfuckingdyke.

these are also people who, besides being unable to tolerate raves unless they're fucked up, can only do drugs at raves because they can't think of a good way to use drugs outside that setting. IMHO pretty sad, too.

back to my ultimate point: the rave scene, built upon a solid base of constantly evolving electronic music and true devotees, is not a fad. it's a lifestyle that people adhere to on different levels. some superficially, others wholeheartedly, and a lot in between...and there are enough people who remain long enough to keep it going amidst the waves of posers and noobs who never stay.

it's the posers, that will come and go, not the rave scene.

yes the rave scene and being a "raver" can be a fad.
its happened in the mid 90s and happened again shortyly after 2000.
dont you remember when hot topic and pacific sun started selling "rave clothes" such as big pants and other bright ass corney lookin shit.
it was always easy to spot the nubs and possible posers at parties because hot topic sold the most ugly ass looking big pants that were obviously from hot topic.
and yes the cheesey posers have been comin and going for as long as there have been raves.
