how about the concept of you get what you pay for...

you wanna only spend $20, THEN DONT GO TO EDC!!!!! nobody is putting a gun to your head and making you spend $50...go to something else where it's $20 at the door.

but for my $50 ill be partying for 12 hours at the coliseum, listening to 60+ artist, on bad ass sound systems, with crazy ass lights, and going on carnival rides.

and guess what you get for $20...none of the shit i listed above...have fun at your cheapy rave...not for me...

and its amazing to me how many losers are out there that dont have $50

as for Uprise: a Brand NEW venue in LA..BIGGER than the Hudson!, like i said earlier over 14+ headliner djs, lighting companies, security, decorations, etc, etc.
the door price WILL NOT go over $45 if even $40.

honestly, to have over 14+ headliners, i think $30 is an awesome deal.
kinda what i was saying...but you laid it out more in-depth as well.

aaaaaaaah i love bdm.

People shouldn't ever think 50 bucks isn't a lot for a rave. The worldwide rave scene was founded on a scene that wasn't out for major profit and advertising. It was founded on $5-10 parties and a community that shared as much as possible with each other to make the scene the most positive it possibly can be.

The ONLY reason we are paying these high of prices right now is 1) Venue owners raping us because they can, since we needed a few new secure locations to get back on track in 2008. and 2) Greedy promoters that are making an absolute killing on some of these parties. I won't name names but one crew has already taken in over a hundred thousand dollars profit from parties... in 2008 alone.

Prices will not stay this high forever, at least in the 'real' underground scene. I no longer consider parties at places like the Hudson or especially the Massives to be real underground raves. I still go to them, and I love the Hudson myself (although once again I wouldn't pay the price If I had to), but the price that people are paying right now should not really be justified, especially with a bunch of these lineups only containing locals and nationwide (i.e. non-international) DJ's.
I agree. It's because of ravers being afraid of undergrounds(not RL people, but the thousands others that think only mini-massives and massives are raves) lead crews to find secure venues with huge companies that charge a ton.

which crew were you hinting at?

most ill pay for the hudson is 35 dollars. k-fest for thirty was easily wirth it for 8 full hours of dancing.

only parties i've payed more than 50 for was at the door, first rave, lovefest SF.

paid 50 for TAO and EDC....those are highest ive paid since my first....especially cause i never do at the door anymore.

First off, the biggest baddest parties (like EDC, Nocturnal) are not every weekend, so you do not have to worry about paying that much week in and week out. Also, if you took a break for say two or three weeks from one of your little crappy parties, then you'd have more than enough for one big one like EDC. If the big ones don't matter to you that much, then don't go.

Regardless of how the scene was "founded", it is like that no more, for better or for worse (presumably worse, but that's reality). Microeconomics is a mandatory high school course in California, but let me give you a refresher course. If it was true that current promoters are raping us clean, then somebody else would start their own scene/parties that are better or cheaper (or both). Its called supply and demand. Maybe you are right and the market is currently adjusting at a cheaper equilibrium, for example with Fresh as competition to Insomniac in the massive category, but weren't the prices $40-$50 anyway???

And I think we can all agree that parties at the Hudson or an Insomniac massive is not an underground party. If you want 300 people crammed into a smelly, sweaty wearhouse with a shitty system, then I'm sure you can drop less than twenty bones... and don't get me wrong, those can be amazingly fun, but if you want the real fuckin deal, expect to shell out some dough... otherwise throw your own party, put in an incredible amount of time/energy, and then charge an amount that will only make you break even. I don't think you would be content with that. The times I've had at some of these massives are so amazing, that there is unlikely to be any price I wouldn't pay. Besides long lines to get in, I have zero gripes whatsoever.

this is NOT an attack on anyone I love you all!

just do a quick count in your head of the money it takes to throw an event.

Venue 6K+++
2 uk flights and an aussie flight 3.5K
sound stage lights 2K
security 1.5K

thats $13K and we havent touched:

decorations(1000+ )...
venue insurance(800+ )...
booking fees....
PROMOTION (flyers are expensive so if you dont want them just say "no thanks!" dont throw OUR money on the ground!)
HOTELS

seriously...35$ for a party is not expensive in todays world. When I started partying gas was $.89 its like $3.00 now. Flights were $150 from New York City to LA they are $300 now. Prices have gone up because of the economy....not everyone is shady.

NOW! There ARE shady promoters who will charge you $35.00 in a crack house in Korea-town...with a bunch of Djs that you have never heard of...people will take your money if you will give it to them. Thats why you need to find crews you trust...stick with them and they will always have your back!

As for the Uprise comments:

You guys ROCK!

AND - the first batch of Uprise in LA tickets were $15, then $20, then $25, now $30 and we are almost out. After that tickets will be $35. Im not buying the tickets, lol...so that means YOU guys like our events...and I will keep throwing GOOD events as long as you guys support me!
