A good friend of mine, who's 16, has noticed and been told by other people that she's been a lot 'slower' lately. She pauses mid-sentence sometimes just so she can recollect what she was going to say. Besides ecstasy, the only other drugs she takes is alcohol. We've both concluded that she should stop rolling; her short term memory - the culprit in all this - will slowly return to her, without a doubt.
I began to question the legitimacy of all-aged events - should people under the age of 16 be exposed to these kinds of substances? But then the next obvious problem occurred to me: the dangers associated with ecstasy are the primary reason as to why I thought an age limit should be applied. I just found it difficult to prohibit someone from the scene because of drugs, while on the other hand claim that raving is all about the vibe, the music and the people. If raving is all about the vibe, the music and the people - with the understanding that this is the ideal and not the real - then shouldn't all ages be welcome to good vibes, music and people, and not be restricted for reasons beyond it, as in the drugs? Or are drugs so integral to the raving, that you would exclude others just to preserve it? much peace and love |

of course everyone is entitled to good vibes and music and whatnot... but its also true that drugs are a big part of the scene along with the others... having an 18+ age limit deters the younglings, but perhaps its not to preserve the rave's bad habit of drugs, but rather, to preserve the lives, brains, and mindsets of the kids.

imho raves are absolutely about the music... If you are there for drugs, you're obviously not going for the right reasons... It is a hard decision to make because some youngins might realize the dangers of all the drugs and decide not to partake in them, yet others seem to have no self control... It wouldn't be right to pealize everyone for some's mistakes, but is it worth keeping kids from potentialy haming themselves? I think it falls squarely on the promoter... They know who is at their party and could easily keep dealers out, the question is do they have the integrity to do so?

icarus, what happened to all your 'we should allow everyone in cuz we dont judge' bullshit. now your backing up my reasons why children shouldnt be anywhere near this scene argument. pros of having children at parties:
cons of having children at parties:
like i said in another thread, ive personally watched several kids go completly retarded from raving and taking rave drugs, so im completly against kids being there. plus im tired of hearing about people getting mugged n shit in the parking lots cuz of fucking little etards attracting shady fucks. i remember when i got my very first rave flyer back in high school, thinking it was an 18+ event just cuz of how nice the flyer was done, and i remember being ok with it cuz there was no way i was ready for that -_- |

It seems that kids under 18 don't research or know the drug there doing. If ur under 18 and going to a rave.. your usually being pulled there by an older friend or a broken home or something else in ur life.... Thus ur more likely to listen to ur friend.. no matter what he says about drugs... or do any drug to exit reality for a short amount of time and make ur life better for the time being. Why else? Well.... its obvious that kids under 18 ( im talking more like 16,15,14) brains are developing more and there dealing with bodily problems. This makes drugs effect there short-term memory, body and other brain functions more than that of an 18+ year old ( with some exceptions to the rule OF COURSE). Just my two-sense based on the research ive done. (of course this doesnt apply to everyone.. im just saying in generality.)

I would want to put an 18+ age limit at raves that way every one there is an adult (whether or not they act like it). Partying with minors = no go for many reasons, including legal issues. Im sure some guys (and girls!) would like to not have to worry about accidently going home with jailbate (think Trainspotting - an innocent hookup, not a guy taking advantage). I also dont want to have to worry about making a new friend, and then having to ask their mommy if they can come out and play
(Happened to me recently - really sweet girl, but she is only 16! Shes got school, homework and a midnight curfew - yuck!)But, then again, when I was under 18, I thought 18+ parties were a complete injustice and that I had as much of a right to party as anyone else. Not to mention, I'd be willing to bet that a pretty significant portion of the rave scene is made up of minors. So I digress... This is why I will continue to party at home ![]() Oh, and about your friend - alcohol can cause memory loss, too. As well as sleep deprivation... ETA: Sorry, mommy brain! LOL I just thought of something else too, about what you said about banning 16 and under to keep them away from the drugs - they will find the drugs whether or not its at a rave. Ecstasy use is rampant outside of the rave scene. Last edited by Melody; 26.9.2007 at 11:59 am.. Reason: automerged doublepost |

when i was under 18 i was going to house parties thrown by people i knew and chilling at kickbacks with people i knew . not showing up to random ass locations in downtown LA at all hours of the night doing massive amounts of drugs with strangers that could potentially rape/kill/take advantage of me. its being smart. the smart kids arnt at raves, its like echo said, its the depraived children that didnt get enough love from mommy and daddy and need the attention of other adults, that are attending. on a side note, most 17 year olds i meet are mature enough to rave which is why im not all for 18+. id rather see 16+ or proof of student ID saying your a Senor in high school AT LEAST |

niggas, i started partying when i was 16 and look at me now!
*eats 8 pills* WOOOT!! who are people to say that you need to be a certain age to rave? honestly, some of you guys take raving soo seriously. i love to rave as much as the next person but i mean come on. honestly, it's like saying 'omg they need to put an age limit in the mall, cuz like omg, i see 12 year olds with gucci bags. they're asking for thieves to just steal their bags' ![]() ...weird example i know, but hey i do see middle schoolers wearing mini skirts and gucci bags or whatever in public, perfect target for the child molestors---a child and a bag that worth hundreds of dollars. im soo sick of everyone complaining. stop letting things get to you. geezus, its a fucking party, have your fun. dance, give lightshows, watever the fuck. and if you see one of these little underage fucks, ignore them. i am usually the one dancing in front of the decks and i have no problems there cuz these little fucks are usually in the back getting butt raped (cuz they dressed like little skanks that they are) /end rant *exhale* haha it feels good to rant |

I'm mostly against anyone under 18 be allowed to attend raves (not going to go into details), but I think in no way should anyone under 16 EVER be allowed.
