I hear a lot of people and promoters talking about raves, but what exactly defines a rave? Is it the setting? Is it the ambiance (or "vibrations," as some of you put it)? Is it the clothing?

Is Monster Massive a rave? Is Love Fest a rave? Or is that weekend party with the same lineup at the same venue which has been used for the past month a rave?

Please, share your thoughts on what a rave is.

to me, a rave is a club for underage kids. this is part of why i've pretty much stopped raving and just started going to real clubs and such.

i think alot of the promotors are here because they want to make a quick buck, and it seems easier to make some money this way because it's illegal and doesn't take the same effort or have the same responsibility as running a REAL club.

i wish raving was what it claims to be, unfortunately the ravers make it something else.

alignment was a rave. 1up was a rave. it just seems like you need that underground feel. otherwise its just a concert/party

amen to that. 1 up was rave to the max. so was smurfy. both amazing parties. addicted, tyco and kotc are the only 3 crews that stll deliver that actual rave feel...i love what fresh does but its more like an event then a rave.

everything else lately has just felt like a place for underage kids to congregate to be 'scene' and do drugs. before raving turned scene (which happened over the last 8 months) we had awesome outdoor parties every weekend that were pretty fuckin rave.

i guess to me rave is people that actually believe in a culture(learning dance moves and lightshows being part of that) gathering together for a night of freedom away from rules and society while getting lost in music and sharing what theyve learned with each other....least its sposed to be...now its just like i said....underage kids trying to be rebellious doing too many drugs, losing control, and waving lights in each others face with no visible pattern, while a dj plays the soundtrack to a large mollestation on what used to be a dance floor =P

What do you mean by "underground?" Because I remember those flyers littering the floor of every party earlier this year.
