for me it was an old school db tape that made its way around nyc in 1992 -1993 called Old School- New School. it had all the old school jamz, 2 bad mice, acen, old prodigy, project one etc
the track that got me hooked on DNB was Nasty Habits - Shadow Boxing |

Wow, my first rave...probably. I was exposed to all types of EDM but DnB quickly struck me as "raw". It was an acquired taste for many but I fell in love quick. T'was @ Together as One '01...although I was dragged to the main floor with all the mainstream trance dj's I was secretly hooked to the raw energy of the DnB/Jungle area...I'm native so the drum means alot to me. Plus being a vet, I dig the comraderie of the DnB scene...I experienced ShyFx with MC XYZ and I said to myself: "Self, stick a fork in you cuz I'm done!"

Nah, he actually rocked THAT set...he only spit rhymes over the chorus...I hate it when they mess with the crescendo...I've only seen him a handful of times but I prefer my boy MC Ridda...

Moody Alien, Trib, Psychochiller... Mostly Polish Drum and bass from around 1997, and this one Drum and Bass comp CD from 1998 called Drum n Bass: Undergroud and Loud. It had a whole bunch of early Grasscutter, D'Cruze, Genotype, Mental Power, and Fellowship tracks on it. After that I was hooked.

I've always been into electronic music. Hell, the first cd i ever got was a trance compilation when i was a kid. what got me into dnb, or rather, i should say who, was this junglist girl i had a thing for for a long time in high school named mariah. Shes pretty cool, and really got me into some good music. among other things...

Before I had ever heard drum and bass, I was really into dark ambient and droney noise type stuff... like Dahlia's tear. Then i thought it would be pretty cool if artists like this would put drums and melodies over their dark soundscapes.... i did a little bit of searching and i found darkstep and neurofunk

Dude, isn't Neuro the most funkiest shit!? Pure funk instrumental's essential composition PLUS the aura of electronic "synthetics"! I'm weird...I don't have to be drunk or "lit" to start grooving to the smooth beats! lol

Before I listen to DnB. I was more into prodigy, juno reactor, and daft punk. My friend loaned this cd with LTJ,Fabio, And Grooverider. They called it UK hardcore breakbeat. After that I was hooked.

"dont you want some more progression move on the groove makin you feel so smoothe, high and alive, open your mind wide, understand what were doing to you, what were taking you through. Can't you feel the mystics? Got you on a realistic Give it to you live give it to you raw now doncha want doncha want some more?? they told you four times and you still aint learn your lesson? on the other note when I was 14 I used to hang out with a croud that was way older than me like in there 20's, one of my old girlfriends poped in an aphrodite cd and I couldnt think about anything else but that cd. Then they starting taking me raving and when I would hear drum and bass I just knew how to dance to it. I remember watching my body perfectly click to the music while on acid and my friend would trip out and call me a natural born junglist..lol I remember feeling like jungle was the only thing in my life that was ment for me, like it was my destiny, some thing so powerfull that it changed who I was and who I am today. I love you Drum and Bass I never let you go! |
