The holidays are dense with reasons to dance (egg nog, awesome presents, raves, etc), but a special set by drum-and-bass sensation Dieselboy definitely tops that list. He'll be spinning at the massive Sacramento sonic gathering, Electro-Revolution on Wednesday, December 28th, alongside DJ Dan, DJ Zenu (all the way from Romania!), and dozens others. It's eight hours of danceable electronica, good vibes, and waving glow-sticks. So go crazy. Wear a Santa hat.
Dieselboy is universally hailed as a founding father of the dance music niche known as drum-and-bass (so called for the prominence of drums and, yes, bass in its high-energy sound). There is good reason for this. He has the longest-running drum-and-bass weekly in the country (Platinum in Philadelphia), he was the first American drum-and-bass DJ to be nominated (and win) at the 1998 Global DJ Mix Awards, and he was the first drum-and-bass DJ to chart a single on Billboard's dance charts. These are only the most obvious of his endless accolades.
The ex-small-town boy born Damian Higgins now has a fan base rivaling (if not surpassing) that of any rock star, and he is quite commonly referred to as “the most in-demand American drum-and-bass DJ on the planet.” And this statement is not hyperbole in the least. His most recent mix CD is called, awesomely, The Dungeonmaster's Guide, as a nod to his geeky, role-playing roots, and it even features warrior-narration by none other than Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, the big-rig truck robot leader from the cult 80s cartoon, Transformers. As if this wasn't amazing enough, the album boasts guest contributions by such dance luminaries as Sasha and Tiesto, and continues to expand the genre Dieselboy was so instrumental in defining. But, bravely, this kind of experimentation is his credo: “You always have to keep reinventing yourself and doing new stuff, or you're just going to fall through the cracks [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (Stoney Inn - Sacramento)
