Saying trance music isn't rave music is kinda ironic considering some of the best known djs like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, and Tiesto all spin mostly trance mixes...

Trance music currently in the UK is the most diverse it's been in a long time.
2006 was the year of Tech-Trance which blended the best sounds of Techno with some of classic synths and breakdowns from Trance. Stick a few elements of Electro and bang you've got something great. DJs like Eddie Halliwell, John Askew, Sander Van Doorn and Mark Sherry are destroying that myth that Trance is boring. If you think Trance is too airy fairy then please, please, please check out the link in my signature. Then sign up and go to the mix vault. Download the mix by Mark Sherry (aka 1 part of Public Domain) and give it a listen. Also in the 'Members Mixes' section is a mix by a bedroom DJ called Heirja, check that out as well. It's just spot on. Nice Apples! ![]() |

Example Monster Massive 2006 Paul Van Dyk Armin Van Buuren Markus Schulz Judge Jules Popsicle Love Fest After Party 2006 Oakenfold Above and Beyond Andy Moor Blank and Jones Rank One Or Lets not forget in LA on NYE full of Trance DJ's both events crowded as fuck!! If you say Trance isnt "rave music" than I could easially say the same biased opinion about any other electronic music style.
I could say DnB isnt rave music because its all just Oontz-Oontz BoomBoom, Oontz-Oontz BoomBoom. BORING. Its all just hard fast bassey stuff, no change in emotion and it so bland and repetitive. I could say House isnt because its all just "funky homo shit" about somebody talking about Jack and his groove and how it was the groove of all grooves. See what I mean? Of course, im just using those as examples. I do have love for all styles of electronic music. All I ask is that you not be biased towards Trance simply because of your superior love for DnB or another genre. Alot of people i know call local trance DJs "Just anther Tiesto/Armin clone" Well how are all local DnB DJs not just "Just another Dieselboy/Ed Rush clone"? |

First off, I would like to preface this post with this assertion:
Though the word "rave" (as we know it) was coined in the 1980's in conjunction with the acid house movement, it has gained a negative connotation because of its widespread use by the American mainstream media. Due to this contamination of the word, "rave" now holds an entirely new meaning that is vastly different from the one with which it started. While some embrace the new meanings and connotations that "rave" has aquired, I believe that there are many like me who feel that the word no longer describes a culture revolving around music, but one in which music, despite its deafening volume (not that I mind), has taken second place to the drug culture. I do not deny or begrudge any person the right to consume what they like; I have done my fair share of experimentation, but drugs and excess are the reason that the so-called hippie movement died before it was out of its infancy. Drugs, while they can be entertaining, do not provide a lasting connection to the music or culture. The music needs to be first and foremost if any of you "ravers" want the "scene" to thrive, flourish and evolve. The 'R' in P.L.U.R. stands for 'respect.' Respect yourself, respect others, respect the scene, respect the music. Help it grow. You have not lost your chance yet, the music is still there. I believe that the artistic inspiration, the spark, has not faded, but it will if "raves" continue to be commercialized and mass produced. ******* So, to the matter at hand. Instead of "rave," I will use the word "party." I think we can agree that almost every "rave" can also be described as a party. par·ty -noun 1. a social gathering. (Merriam-Webster's online dictionary) The question remains: Is trance "proper" party music? prop·er -adjective 8. marked by suitability, rightness, or appropriateness. (Ibid) The reason music is played at a party is for the listeners/party-goers to enjoy or even dance to if they feel so moved, correct? Thus, if nobody is enjoying or dancing to the music that is being played at a party, one could claim that, in that instance, the music being played is not the proper [suitable, appropriate] music for the party. If this is the case with trance music at every party that it is played at, then I concede your point. Otherwise, you are just improperly espousing your opinion as fact and and anouncing your ignorance of the difference between the two to everyone who has read your post. -Jesse |

oh dear, this coming from a man who cant even spell fucker.
i must say a man who wants to advertise that he fucks his mother should not be trusted. now my strange little man let me organise your thought for you, shall i. that you use the word "rave" clearly indicates that you are of little intelligence, and american. "rave", as a term, should not be used in the same sentience as trance. "rave" derives from the outdoor festivals which were held in england, belgium and holland during the late eighties and early nineties. the word "rave" came from various english newspapers to descibe "an illegal gatheing of people who wish to listen to loud, repeditive music while under the influence of drugs or alcohol". so my friend either you have achieved time travel or you have just woken up, "rave" does not mean a type or style of music, it is a description of AN ILLEGAL GATHERING OF PEOPLE LISTENING TO LOUD REPEDITIVE MUSIC WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL. please in future think before offering your simple-minded thoughts. |
