I used to listen to Essential Mixes broadcasted in the UK filled with these types of blends, and only recently have I heard Mashups being rotated heavily in the club and rave scene (and doing supremely well with the downtown Los Angeles crowd)
I know this music not only blends Dance with Hip Hop, but Alternative/Rock, Ska, Doo Wop and others as well. I just see it as sampling whole tracks of different genres, and speeding up the tempo to become suitable for a more energetic crowd bent on dancing. I get the impression that people who listen to hip hop dislike that trance/techno sound. So are Mashups the beginnings of a bridge from Boom Bap/Radio rap onto the Electronic Dance Floor? These are all monsters on the dance floor right now in the LA Club Night(ie. Females rushing the floor): Pharrel & Twista - Give it Up (Kasey & Blldog Remix) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Kanye West - Flashing Lights (Dan-O Remix) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Michael Jackson - Thriller (Van's Too Tight Remix) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] |
