I hate MixMag(its a kinda rave/club magazine which sits with the likes of BPM), but they throughally pissed me off the other day. My friend threw me one and for whatever reason i actually started looking through it. It had a photo of Oakenfold at Ultra and was bashing him because he played the track PPK Ressurection. Now i have heard some bad things about Oakenfold over the past year or so, but he is responsible for alot of the buildup of the acid house and rave scene as we know it today.....and i love the track PPK Ressurection?! I am just not cool and out of touch with things? what are your guys thoughts?

Man .. that track is great, there are so many mixes of it out there. People always expect DJ's to throw down new mixes everytime they spin, I love listening to classic mixes. I am going to see him in central park for ultra new york in September. And don't always believe mixmag, they were the ones who announced Oakie's retirement from EDM to join a fuckin' rock band.... we see that's not true, maybe he changed his mind, and maybe they were reporting inaccurately? either way Oakenfold is a great DJ.

This guy is mozard in electronic music and all of his old stuff is what made the trance today. Now he lost his touch and is not hitting it as he used too.

Okay first of all... I agree... Tranceport was a sensational mix that took trance music over the top!!!...
But honestly, Oakey let it all go to his head... He's no longer about making good music... He's all about being a 21st Century Rock Star... He is part of the reason trance music is now considered the "sellout genre" of EDM/Rave/Club music... Mixmag was probably bashing him for playing PPK because that sound is usually considered a more underground rave sound... Basically what they're saying is that once a track hits Oakey's playlist... It's now mainstream... Which is kinda true... |

considered sellout? it isn't considered, it is a fact. Trance is the homoginized crap that they feed all of those who don't know any better. This is why trance is so widely accepted. It doesn't contain any other elements of music and is manufactured. What about the soul, funk, disco influence that is present in all other electronic music genres. Trance is easy to accept, because it is manufactured for white people, and the rave scene, predominantly white people.
I think trance is a bad excuse for electronic music |
