I come on here everyday and talk to people from all over america who are into EDM Culture. But yet I go out out everyday in the real world where people act like raving and listening to EDM is sort of a taboo. I mean you got your rockers your hip hop heads and everything inbetween. Youd think EDM Culture would be bigger, i mean not even the REALLY big djs are unheard of when i talk to people. I mean everyone knows who 50 Cent and LLYOD BANKS are but no that many people even know who TIESTO is....Im starting to think there must some sort of conspiracy against dance music in the United States......
What im getting at is why do yall think it is about EDM Culture that just isnt appealing to most americans...?? |

Yeah its called the government and MTV hate us, and the media portraied(sp?) us as just a bunch of druggies which is a big no no in the american lifestyle.
My old manager at my last job knew who tiesto was... however he described him as some fag enghlish dj because he didnt like EDM. |

i never stop think about it.... ummm i would have to say that its kind of a social taboo dude to that fact that the scene goes hand in hand with drug use and that its how it has been presented to the mass media all tho it not like that in reality, also there is no profit to be made in our culture |

If you're going to blame anyone, blame the candy kids for creating the stereotype of what a "raver" is.

And there is a profit to be made ,in Europe dance music...as stated earlier EDM is HUGE and they def make a profit off it over there....so there must be something else..... You would THINK that more people would want an Alternative to just rock music and Hip Hop..... Last edited by Incoherent; 14.12.2006 at 7:33 pm. Reason: automerged doublepost |

its because, you can sing along to other types of music, so it gets stuck in your head. there is also a formula used to write songs that isnt used for EDM. and also theres an icon to worship when its a band/rapper. people think of djs as just a guy that plays prerecorded music. also most EDM songs are just pulsing beats or some form of repetitious noise with repeated hooks that lose their magic because theyre repeated so much.
thats y people like ferry corsten and liam hewlett are fucking genius's because theyve managed to use the same formula used in writing catchy pop/rock/rap and transitioned it into EDM so its fun for everyone. only problem is when techno djs do become big they usually wind up on stations like KIIS FM(la/orange county pop station) and then the songs get classified as gay and trendy and uncool with no edge. you have your acceptions: prodigy, chemical brothers, chrystal method, etc that we all know of now because they broke the barrier. but poor artists like Special D get overplayed on the pop stations and now people hate their songs with a passion lol i mean come on...who doesnt cringe everytime they hear Sandstorm(Darude) or You(special D) |

I think EDM is going to be the next "mainstream" genre, like rap is now and pop was before it. More and more people are seeking fun party songs, and alot of "preps" are discovering trance. Give it a few more years, and i think you'll start to hear EDM on MTV. and that will be the time the scene dies.

even if edm goes mainstream, that doesn't mean the scene will die. it'll split in half. we'll still have underground. i mean, there is an underground to rock music, rap... probably not country.. but yea.. blah on country... anyway.. it'll never die, it is growing excessively. I think that all started in this last year. But that's not bad, as long as people are doing it for the right reasonis. If it goes main stream, cops will be busting mainstream parties where, and we can have like a hard hard core underground scene.. it'd be cool, people would know where to go...
... i really dont know if that^^^ up there, makes sense.. meh, oh well |

Look at past counter cultures and observe what happened with them if you'd like to know what might happen to raves.

one thing that sets our culture apart from other cultures is that really doesnt have any sort of political agenda...
its really just about comming together...peacefully...and having a good time...listening to good music...and party..... its not about.....poetic expression per say....like hip hop or rock music.....even tho those styles can serve as party music.... This is what definaltey makes our culture unique from all others. |
