Hey everyone, I was wondering, does the rave scene have a bad reputation when the topic is brought up to people “outside” of the rave scene? What does your boss or parents , or even non-raving roommates think about you going to all night dance parties? I was wondering what do you tell others who don’t rave at all – or if they see those rave flyers, or listen to the music, or even see a pacifier or anything related to parties. Do they have a negative view on the scene and think of you less as a person? And do they draw the stereotypical conclusions that raves are all about people doing drugs? Just wondering that is all...

well, my parents just thought it was a love in type of thing like they had when they were young hippies, so they weren't really trippin' at all about it
a lot of my friends suddenly pretended they didn't know me after i started going, but that's cuz they're open minded punk rockers, there is a band called fleas n lice that did a song called rave is your grave, that song talks about lots of fake smiley people that are eing all the time... clients that i've brought it up to either didn't care, assumed i do tons of drugs, or said something allong the lines of, "i used to go to those, but then i grew up..." the drug thing i can understand, yes it's a stereotype, but it's straight up! if you go to a rave there's gonna' be way more loaded people than 100% sober people the friends that are real friends of mine, mostly think it's silly and since they don't really dig the music they just don't ever go and laugh a lil about it, but it's all good...a few friends will go with me and dig it, can't expect everyone to like what i like at the last company i worked it, it kinda' got me the job, hehe...turned out that my boss is down for being etarded at the raves (he was mostly a coke head though) and my coworker was deep into the mid 90's powertools/power 106 techno thing, so they both loooooved rave type music, the owner of that company travels and goes to raves all kinds, mostly huge ones, and things like the winter music conference...i'm glad i don't work with them anymore though, they're all crazy man, crazy! the people that do give me crap for it, and seriously feel very negative about raving, well i smile and usually respond with, "dude, i just love to dance to boomin' beats all night...is that so wrong?" when i put it that way, they usually back off, but still hold that the music is lame and the style is retarded for the most part (which i partially agree with, ravers look dumb, hehe...*points and laughs at self*) |

they think i must love Darude - Sandstorm, that i do drugs every day, i dont have a job, i suck on binkies all day, i wave my arms like a retard, and that i listen to Techno...cause its all aparently called Techno...
i just stare at them and walk away. cause honestly, unless they've been there with us, danced with us, and expericenced it with us. they can never understand us. so i dont even bother to try somtimes. i'll defend aspects and argue points to ppl who i know. but other than that i mostly wont tell a lot. i just say, "go to a rave for yourself and find out" -echo- |

There are a lot of people doing drugs there. So? It's just not all about the music. It does play a part, but there are the drugs too. The drugs are the only thing society is concerned about. Take away the drugs and nobody would have anything bad to say about a rave. Your friends and family and coworkers might actually go because they'd see these parties in a different light. It won't happen over night, but maybe it'll happen one day. Wouldn't you like to take them to a rave and not have them look around and see a lot of people on drugs and come to the conclusion that the drugs are what raves are all about. I'd love a friend of mine to go back home and tell his friends and family how much fun he had, rather than how many people he saw on drugs. I want to be able to spread the word that we can have fun and not use drugs. They cannot shut us down if we're all sober at a party. They can't bust in and find drugs to be able to shutdown a party and arrest people. I would laugh when the cops bust in and don't find any drugs or people on anything and have to leave and let us continue to party. They'll check our permits and permission slips and all will be on the up and up and they'll have to leave and let us continue the party. Wouldn't that be awesome? Instead of everybody having to go home, some people fined, and others arrested? The only reason the government wants to shutdown raves is because of the drugs. Do you think they can if there are no drugs around? Or that they would care to at that point? |

And I agree with Dr. Evil wholeheartedly. The first thing that comes out of anyone's mouth when they know I'm a raver is "oh you do you do E and all that?" "No, I'm not into that stuff." "How do you have fun then?" Because apparently, they don't realize their whiny emo shit music is just as "repetitve and boring" as my "DDR music". But I kind-of like it that way. The more alienated the scene is, the less corrupt it will become, I feel. It is really horrid that the police shut them down and everything (I'm still not even a little bit over the whole Utah incident, that really shook me up) but I'd rather say "no, I don't do drugs" a million times then have all the stupid trend-whores at school replace their AFI and My Chemical Romance CDs with Clubland and vinyl rips. |

I'm the only one that goes to raves at my school, and we have over 2,200 students.
I have a friend who did go to raves, really want to go to one with her. I also have another friend who used to think she was a raver, but has never been to one, heh. Gotta take her to one also. My friends are accepting of it, they're not the type to revolve their whole friendships over music (music cliques at school, etc), and that's great. Sure, whenever they talk about what they listen to, I have no clue, but sometimes it catches my interest and I find some more music to enjoy. As for the rest of the students... Elitist dipshits. I get a lot of shit for rolling also, tsk tsk. |

most people think raving is this scary, wild thing, full of weird, scary people!! ahh!! lol...it's quite funny...what they do get right is the drugs....I mean, I know a lot of people say it's not all about the drugs, but that is really hard to believe when I hear many people say, "I need a break from rolling"..so they stop partying for a while.....why can't they just go to one without rolling?...but I have met a lot of people who really go there for the music and have lots of fun...and those people rock!

At one point of time I was one of those people who thought raves were scary. My older sister went to them all the time, and she would come home all cracked out from rolling all night. I used to tell her that she was going to die or something from going to parties and eating pills. Well that all changed one day when I decided that I wanted to go to a party and see everything for myself. I loved it! I had the time of my life and started going to parties like every single weekend for the longest time. My parents didn't mind that I went to raves---my mom always told me to be careful and to make it home safe. My little sister, she didn't like anything about a rave. She went to one and said she would never go to one again. I tried to get her to go to some with me, but she wouldn't. I guess the scene was just not for her. But now I'm a retired raver, and don't have too much interest in going to a party---but I still love the music!
