So I am sitting at my computer, listening to music,of course, and i thought up some questions for everybody. You see, I really love remixes and bootlegs(Mashups)...
so here are my questions: What are some of the best remixes you've ever heard in your life? What are some of the best Bootlegs? Do you like Bootlegs better than Remixes, or vice-versa? I Dunno, I Thought It Might Be Fun To Hear Your Responses... |

this is the first i've heard of bootleg referring to a mashup
the term bootleg has been around for music for a very long time, bootleg recordings from dead shows would be a fine example i haven't heard many songs that refer to themselves as "mashups" that i like so far, however, before this whole "mashup" trend began happening, it was a very common practice for djs to tear apart a song and rearrange it with elements from other songs, i've heard this done many times by skilled turntablists and i dig it, it's very raw and takes lots of skill to make happen as far as remixes, i guess my favorites are when they'd take 80s music and make house remixes of it, this was very popular in the early 90s and has resurfaced as being popular again recently...i also love 80s tunes remixed into happycore tracks, this also is not anything new at all but i still dig it... |

Yeah, The Term Bootleg Is A Bit Confusing, As I DO Understand That A Bootleg is Also The Process Of Bootlegging A Song As You Would Alcohol in the thirties (God I hope I Got That Time Period Right) but I like the Term in reference to a mashup. Mostly because MTV, Linkin Park and Jay Z killed the term. Also, when something isn't right where I'm From we use the "Bootleg" as slang... Like if someone were wearing fake Nike's, "Man, Your shoes are Bootleg..." Since a mashup is close to the original, but not quite there, It is a Bootleg. I Didn't Make Up This Term For Mashup, I Just Adopted It. It was A few Years Back When i First Heard It Though.... Wierd. I LOVE 80's Remixes though, I was looking foward to Rubix Cube Rewind for a month and a half and was pissed when I couldn't go last minute, But Knowing that it was a bust, I am glad i didn't go. |

Normally a bootleg would be reffering to a vinyl, like an illegal reproduction. Often you'l get like a weird mish mash of tunes from diffrent ep's and there normally poorly pressed so sound quality is poor. That kind of bootleg i hate, would much prefer to have an orignal pressing, represses are so bad though.
I have heard people call using a sample illegally as bootlegged but i'd just say remixed or sampled. The remix i like the most out of my collection would have to be the jungle version of nrg - i need your loving, heavy tune fuck knows what your on about with the bootlegg and mashup ting though ![]() |
