Pandora

I'm sure a lot of you guys have used it or at least heard of it, basically it figures out what music you'll probably like based on what it already knows you like.
When I looked for house but instead got some hardcore, I got into the music and through that got interested in rave culture.
So I'm just wondering, first, is there a better alternative to pandora, like I've heard of di.fm, and have any of you guys had a similar experience where pandora introduced you to some whole other genre of music that you'd never heard before but really became into?
